上九天揽月独秀峰西麓，有一条蜿蜒曲折的上山石磴道，登上306级石级，便能到达山顶.在古人眼里，昆仑山是最高的山峰，因此将独秀峰比作昆仑，像一擎天石柱屹立在南天.又由于登独秀峰好像行走在云天中，故有”昆仑天柱立”的题刻。山上另有清代摩崖大榜“南天一柱”、“紫袍金带”等笔力遒劲的题刻，均为桂林石刻艺术中不可多得的巨制。

And when you are scaling the peak you feel as if you were treading on the air and clouds, hence the inscriptions “Kunlun, A Heavenly Pillar”. Besides, one can find such big-character inscriptions on the cliff above as “ A Pillar Supporting the Southern Heaven Above” and “Purple Robe Matched with Golden Girdle” written by a Qing calligrapher in forceful and virile strokes. On the Solitary Beauty Peak there are still some eerily shaped caves, but the most famous of them is the cave for study on the eastern foothill, which looks like a stone-chamber with a stone window and a bed wrought by nature. At the north foothill there is a pool of spring in the shape of a new moon, known as the “Crescent Pond.”
