Key: The nature of the story’s conflict is the conflict between the poor white and the rich white, that is, the sharp class conflict between poor white and the landlord. Throughout the six scenes of the story, we can find the feelings and behavio rs of the child. He wanted to protect his father, but he couldn’t approve his father’s impetuous behaviors. In the every scene, we can e the struggle of the son and the sharp conflicts between his father and their landlord as well. The landlord is insolent and scornful, while the father is rude and impetuous. Thus, the conflicts between them go to extreme, and the fa ther burnt the landlord’s barn.
