By contrast, the number divorces incread to the highest point t at nearly 1.5 million by 19
80, before decreasing back to 1 million at the end of the period.
The cond chart compares figures for the marital status of American adults in 1970 and 2000.Proportion of never married adult in 1970 was about 13%, in comparison with 20% in 2000. Around 70% of American adults were married in 1970, 10% higher than that in 2000. it is note worthy that American had the almost same percentage of widowed people in two years, and the divorce rate ro by about 10% at the same time.
