The Lot 2: Rehabilitation of Agona Junction – Elubo Road (km 30.0-80.0) is basically rehabilitation of an existing paved road including road widening with an asphalt concrete surfacing.

Road length is 50km, comprising a two lane single carriageway (7.3m) and 2.5m shoulders, all in asphaltic concrete.

2. Location, Topography and Climate位置、地势和气候
Ghana is located along the Gulf of Guinea, in West Africa between the longitude of 1 deg. 12’ E and 3 deg. 15’W, the latitude 4 deg. 45’N and 11 deg.

The annual rainfall over the country ranges between the highest of 2180 mm in the Western region and lowest of 710 mm in Greater Accra region.

The climate of Ghana is divided into the wet and dry asons. The climate is tropical but influenced by the hot and dry north-east trade wind (“Harmattan”) blowing from the Sahara dert and the south –west trade wind (“Monsoon”) which brings cooler and humid air. The wet ason extends from April to October in general. However in the northern parts of Ghana the peak occurs in September while in Southern Ghana the rainfall is heaviest in June, with a cond but rather smaller peak occurring in October.

The climate in the project area is tropical with a bimodal rainfall pattern. Annual rainfall varies between 750mm and 1,200mm. The entire corridor is characterized by very high humidity and temperature.

Two ranges of mountains mark the topography of Ghana. The Akwapim Kwahu range runs across the country in a NW – SW direction rising up to 800 m above mean a level. Between the two mountain ranges lies the Volta Plateau covering the whole of Northern Ghana and constituting a district topographic region, which is generally flat and 180m above mean a level. Northern Ghana is mainly savanna and grasslands. South Western and Central Ghana are largely rain forest

The only international airport rving the project area is in Accra. Regular domestic flights from Accra are usually available to Tamale, Sunyani, and Kumasi. The country is rved by two a ports at Tema and Takoradi.
