(2022·上海中学高三期中)Most college campus offer students the opportunity to get involved in a wide variety of clubs and organizations. But what if your school doesn’t offer a club in the area you’re interested in?
Don’t worry, you can start your own! We spoke with Whitney Cowling, Student Organization Activities & initiatives Coordinator at Aims Community College, to break down the steps needed to get your club off the ground.
Define the purpo of your club
Think about the goal of your club and identify what you’re looking to accomplish.
“We have a broad offering of organizations. Some are tied to academic departments, some are identity-bad, and some are interest-bad,” said Cowling.
Check in with your Student Life office for guidance. They can help you flesh out ideas and ensure your propod organization is in compliance with all federal, state and local laws, in addition to school policies and procedure. Ultimately, they will review your club proposal for approval, so it’s a great idea to receive their feedback from the start.
Start recruiting club members
It’s common for schools to require a minimum member count before approving the club. Cowling explained that Aims Community College require five fee-paying students to be interested in a club before it is approved as an official campus organization.
“Find students with the same interests as you, then find a staff member who’s willing to help advi.”
Advirs are generally required to overe the progress of your organization. They will provide helpful feedback and make sure you're staying on track with the goals you’ve outlined for the club.
Receive training and spread the word
Your organization's officers will likely need to receive some formal training before you can start advertising on campus. Cowling explained that the president and the treasurer of new clubs are required to complete a mandatory officer training before the club can reprent itlf as an official organization of the college.
“Once they find their members and advir, and complete a mandatory officer training, we consider them to be an official club on campus. Then our office awards them $100 as start-up money.”
After the club has been approved you may be entitled to helpful resource, like graphic design and printing assistance to get the word out around campus. You can also create social media accounts or have promotional items made to help stir up interest.
Lastly, don’t try to do everything at once. Building your club will take time, so focus on small goals and celebrate your victories.

(2022·安徽·高三期中)Bicycle riding has taken the world by storm. Bicycles are typically made of steel or aluminum(铝)but now there is a unique company that is growing bikes on trees.
The bicycles are made of British-grown ash trees(白蜡树)by Welsh furniture maker Andy Dix. His company, Twmpa Frames, is making bikes that are both high performance and environmentally sustainable. Going from furniture to bicycles came about after a conversation with author Rob Penn. Penn was looking for craftsmen to make things from an ash tree that fell for his book: The Man Who Made Things Out of Trees.
“We talked about what I might build, and I suggested a bike,“ said Dix. "It emed like a good fit, but actually I had no experience in bike building, and Rob had a publishing deadline. In the end, I built him a writing desk instead." But the idea interested Dix who decided that he had to make it happen just to e if he could.
It took two years to build the prototype(原型)that was made from ash wood Dix tested the wooden bike on the roughest roads he could find and discovered that it was comfortable, and excellent at absorbing vibrations(振动).He put more than 3,000 miles on the bike. While cutting down trees can add to more carbon in the atmosphere, sustainable tree farming is possible. Sustainable forestry is about balancing the needs of the environment and forest communities through limiting harvests and replanting trees.
