摘要：A residual current device (RCD) compris test circuitry which issues intermittent first test puls each simulating a residual current fault for which a corresponding fault signal (12) is generated. The duration of each fault signal is less than the respon time of contacts (SW1) supplying current to a load so that the latter, being clod, do not open and the current to the load is not interrupted. In the ca of a fault in which a corresponding fault signal (12) is not received in respect of a first pul, the RCD attempts to force the load contacts (SW1) open. The test circuitry further issues intermittent cond test puls at a frequency less than that of the first test puls, each cond test pul simulating a residual current for which a corresponding fault signal (12) is generated. The duration of each corresponding fault signal (12) is greater than the respon time of the load contacts (SW1) to allow the load contacts to open. If the test circuitry detects that the load contacts (SW1) do not open, the RCD attempts to force the load contacts (SW1) open.
