On Cultural Context and T ranslation from the Adaptation-Theoretic Perspective
Abstract
The paper starts from the context analysis,and builds on V erschueren's theory of adaptation to discuss the importance of cultural context adaptation to translation.The author points out that a translator must adapt to the different culture,religious beliefs,idioms,historical affairs,etc.,thus make an appropriate lection of the lexical meaning in translation.Only by芍药花什么时候开
doing so,can a translator achieve the nearly equivalent translation and make the version mirror the style of the original language.Meanwhile,dwelling on the strategies employed in de青春逝去
aling with the cultural context adaptation,which make the translators skillfully grasp the cultural context analysis and improve the quality of translation.
The thesis consists of four parts.
The first chapter makes a literature review on translation.Then the Adaptation Theory is given an explanation,followed by a discussion of three components,that is,variability,negotiability,and adaptability,of which adaptability is at the core.
In cond chapter,the theory is employed in examining the translation activity after a short survey of relevant鲨鱼干
arguments.Adaptability functions in all kinds of language u;translation is thus a process of adaptation,with continuous choice making.Dynamics and salience of the adaptation in translation are also included in our discussion.
In the third chapter,the author firstly makes the definition of cultural context;then analy the importance of cultural context in the source language and target language;and indicates the elements which can influence translator's adaptation inclination;lastly,deals with how different cultural context affect translation.
In the forth chapter,author indicates the different translation strategies for cultural context adaptation.

本文从语境分析出发，以Verschueren的顺应论为理论指导，探讨了顺应文化语境对翻译的重要性。指出译者应当顺应不同的文化，宗教信仰，习语，历史事件等方面来达到译文与原文的等效翻译。同时分析针对顺应文化语境所应采取的翻译策略，为翻译工作者更好地掌握文化语境分析方法、提高译文质量提供一定的借鉴。
本文共分四章。
先是文献综述部分：阐述翻译的概念，然后从耶夫.维索尔伦的顺应论出发，分析语言的特性，即变异性、商讨性和顺应性；
然后对顺应论视角下的翻译过程进一步展开了论述：由于顺应性涉及一切语言使用行为，因此翻译活动也是顺应的过程，并且对有关翻译活动中顺应的动态性与意识程度也做了说明；
本文的主要部分，即文化语境与文化语境顺应：首先阐述文化语境的概念，其次分析文化语境在原语与译语的重要性并指出使译者产生不同文化顺应倾向的因素从而进一步挖掘出翻译过程中需要着重顺应的几方面；
最后从顺应文化语境出发，探讨为更好顺应文化语境而采取的翻译策略。

concept of 'context of situation' in 1923,context has become a key notion in translation area.In recent years, many scholars at home and abroad began to give rious considerations and made great contributions to the rearch of context. Later,
Firth, Halliday, Hymes,Lyon,etc.,have made their own definitions and categories.In his Understanding Pragmatics,Jef Verschueren,introduced to us the Adaptation and Comprehension Theory,which approaches to language u from a new angle,for the building a whole theory of pragmatics provides a new way of thinking;which refers to the process of language u is a constantly,intentionally or unintentionally, by language internal or external factors influenced language chon process.Therefore,human being is able to make choice out in the process of language usage unceasingly.
There are also many rearch about cultural context and Adaptation Theory at home.For instance,Liao Kaihong in his work On the Adaptation of Cultural Context and Selection of Lexical Meaning in Translation indicated that"The process of language u by human being is a choice process which bad on language internal and external factors make constantly choices on different n degrees.Any language should make a dynamic ,rather than static,adaptation to the context of original language to lect the translated language,thereby,to satisfy,to the greatest extent,the requirements of
