Born in Russia and having spent childhood years in Portugal, Sokhin first made a career as a documentary photographer recording health issues. Yet it was a 2013 assignment to record illegal tree-cutting that convinced him to turn his lens (镜头)to human's impact on the climate.
“I saw how the environment was changing becau of such activities/5 Sokhin says. "But the big picture wasn't there. I thought, "What if I extend a little bit?'" Eight years and thousands of miles later, the result is Warm Waters published in 2021, which explores climate change across eighteen countries and off-the-map areas en by ldom few.
Within his native Russia, Sokhin photographs native ttlements in Alaska, who are facing melting permafrost—the once-frozen soil now fast disappearing. Mostly, Sokhin explores the South Pacific where communities in many places have been flooded by rising tides. Some may recover, others may soon be lost to the a forever.

"This is affecting everyone.
