In this thesis, with the actualization of the aesthetic motivations as my thematic concern,I will examine the translation of ci poems by Xu Yuanchong from the miotic perspective,which provides a unique angle to help increa translators' nsibility to some literary significance during the translation process. A detailed study of the translation will be made at three levels: phonological,syntactic and mantic, with the pragmatic aspect as the underlying background. It is hoped that this thesis will make a pioneering attempt to investigate the translation of ci poems from the miotic perspective.

Secondly, I want to talk about the structure and main contents of this paper.

Witfi an aim to make a systematic investigation of ci poems translation from a miotic perspective, this thesis is compod of six chapters.

Chapter 1 is the introduction. It tries to introduce ci poems and translation, the purpo,significance and the rearch methodology of the thesis from a general view.

Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 lay the theoretical foundation of the thesis. Chapter 2 attempts to prent a critical overview of quasi-miotic and miotic approaches to translation in China and abroad. It also examines the miotic difference of literary language, which points to the miotic characteristics of literary tr出islation.

Chapter 3 introduces briefly the motivation theory, inclusive of the theory of aesthetics and the aesthetic motivation behind the literary language, especially poetry. It examines the possible approaches to actualize aesthetic motivations in poems.

Chapter 4 explores the miotic perspectives to maintain the aesthetic motivation at three different levels,namely phonological, syntactic and mantic behind linguistic choices in literary language, and all are discusd in the pragmatic context. Respectively, phonological motivation includes rhyme,rhythm, onomatopoeia, reduplication, shuangsheng and motivation consists of information-focus, theme-rheme structure, syntactic repetition,ries and indeterminancy. Semantic motivation includes four parts: metaphoricity,nonreferentiality, intentionality and intertextuality.

Chapter 5 is the examination and evaluation of Xu Yuanchong's translated versions of cipoems of Tang and Song Dynasty from the above three levels.

Chapter 6 gives a brief conclusion to the whole thesis.

This thesis examines the translation of ci poems by Xu Yuanchong from the miotic perspective with the actualization of the aesthetic motivations, which provides a unique angle to help increa translators' nsibility to some literary significance during translation , there still exist obvious limitations in the study. Although the study is claimed to be miotics,some linguistic ideas are adopted to conduct a comparative analysis of the translated versions becau miotics cannot provide enough analytic tools to solve specific translation problems. We have resorted to miotic rationale or theoretical perspective in the study of phonological motivation and syntactic motivation. As for the study of mantic motivation, the advantage of miotics as theoretical and explanatory is manifested.

毕业论文是大学生在校期间向学校所交的最后一份书面作业。英语专业学生在修完一般英语写作课程后，初步熟知和掌握了基本的写作要素和技巧，这时为了深化写作内容，进一步提高文字表达能力，必须开始进行学术论文写作。毕业论文写作在巩固了词的各种意义、搭配、用法、词序，句子的定义、结构、种类、用法，即写作的基本要素和技巧的同时，还能培养初步的研究、分析和总结问题的能力。这就为学生在日后进一步从事相关学科的研究工作打下了坚实的基础。

《高等学校英语专业教学大纲》指出，“毕业论文是考察学生综合能力、评估学业成绩的一个重要方式”。毕业论文写作的优劣、质量的高低是决定学生能否顺利毕业或可否被授予学位的重要依据。因此大学生必须重视和认真撰写毕业论文。

二、认真选题和收集资料。

首先，在导师的指导下认真选题，审定论文题目。选题要遵循以下原则：

三、在导师的指导下制定撰写毕业论文的具体方案，比如开题报告。

（一）引用的问题

高校英语专业必须开设的课程划分成三大板块：英语专业技能课、英语专业知识课和相关专业知识课（《高等学校英语专业英语教学大纲》，2000）。《英语语言学导论》、《英国文学》、《美国文学》等课程属英语专业知识课，是必修课程，一般在高年级开设。近年来，有关英语专业技能类和复合类课程的研究取得了丰硕的成果，然而对英语专业知识性课程的了解相对较少；与此同时，英语专业专业知识课程的教学效果却不容乐观，以《英语语言学导论》课程为例，按照大纲要求，其目的“在于使学生了解人类语言研究的丰富成果，提高其对语言的社会、人文、经济、科技，以及个人修养等方面重要性的认识，培养语言意识，发展理性思维”。从该课程的教学情况来看，教学效果不甚理想，并未达到《高等学校英语专业英语教学大纲》的要求。根据潘之欣（2007）对全国16个省、市、自治区的26所高校在读英语专业硕士研究生的调查统计，学生很喜欢这门课程者为0%，比较喜欢者为，感觉一般者为，不太喜欢者为，不喜欢者为。调查对象反映，任课教师往往沿袭传统的以教师为中心的填鸭式知识灌输模式，即教师讲课，学生记笔记，导致课堂气氛沉闷，学生缺乏内部动力。

在《导论》课程教学效果不甚理想和培养具有较强的分析能力、思辨能力和独立思考能力的英语专业人才的要求（黄源深，2010）的背景下，我们认为将研究型教学引入《导论》课堂能打破过分侧重传授知识的教学方式，把教学由教师的灌输变为共同思考、相互交流、协同合作、思维碰撞的课堂。本文在简要介绍研究型教学的基础上，结合自身的教学实践，探讨将这一教学模式引入《导论》课堂的具体做法。

2.研究型教学模式简介

1 、高校英语专业教育的现状与问题

我国第三次全国教育工作会议后，提出了教育改革的方针，推进素质教育的理念。如何贯彻实施素质教育则成为现代高等院校的主要问题，我们从高校英语专业的教育现状来分析。

一方面，现代社会的不断发展，要求有更多有能力、有素质的人才；第二方面，现代的教育体系，大部分依然是以往的传统教学模式，对学生进行知识的灌输。使得培养出来的大学生与实际中需要的人才，格格不入。为了解决这一个对立的矛盾，就要从其根源上来找，传统的英语教学，主要是培养学生的应试考试能力，很少注重对他们的听、说以及与其它学科之间的联系。这样就会使得学生的知识面太窄，不能获取更多的知识视野。学生毕业后，可能会面临很大的就业压力。出现与生活的脱节现象，所以针对这种情况，高等院校必须进行改革，提升学生的个人综合素质[1]。

2 、基于美式教育下，英语专业素质教育的改革方向

在美式教育启发下，我们要在高等院校实施素质教育，首先就要改变教育观念，作为英语教师，必须适应当前社会的发展，结合学生毕业要面临的就业问题，对现代的本科英语教学的模式进行分析，重新定位教学目标和内容，按照素质教育要求的目标，对学生进行教育。重点培养学生的英语语言的表达能力，对外国等国家的风俗文化有所了解，锻炼自己各方面的才能，成为一个具有多种技能的复合型人才。而在这许多的内容中，培养学生的专业素质是最主要的方面。

学生的英语专业素质应该在教师传授知识的时候，进行培养，多加强对学生的自主学习能力和思维方面的训练，解决学生的分析问题的能力，和实践操作技能方面的能力，增强学生的学习自信心和学习兴趣。

在教学课堂中，只要把学生作为课堂生活中的人，才能发现学生具有的潜质，我们要懂得去爱护、相信学生，不断去鼓励、感悟、激起学生，让他们去自主探究、合作、讨论，这样的课堂学习，让师与生的心、灵都共享学习的快乐，这样的学习才是真正的学习，而学生就能够主动、参与、活动[2]。

（1）育人方面的能力。

高校教师要不断进行对学生的培养，树立自己高尚的人格，作为学生的表率，在道德修养方面潜在的引导学生，达到一个较好地目的。

（2）学习能力。教育人员和学生之间本来应该是一个统一体，没有什么界限的，作为一名老师，也要进行不断的学习，扩展自己的知识面，只有这样，才能适应现代社会的发展。作为英语专业的老师，就必须及时地对自己的知识方面的能力进行提高。适应当前改革的需要和社会的发展。

（一）从教学内容上，教师应该改变以往的讲授为主的教学方式，改为利用先进的多媒体进行辅助教学，比如说，对于一些听力材料，可以利用播放多媒体视频的方式，让学生在图文并茂的中，学会知识[3]。

（二）尽可能多地用英语授课，与学生进行互动交流。

（三）合理设计课堂问题，引发学生思考。

I am Zhao Jing. Firstly, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my supervisor Zhong Ming, for his intellectual guidance, invaluable instructions and comments on my thesis. It is with his valuable assistance that I have finally accomplished this thesis.

The title of my paper is The Masculine Spirit of The Old Man and the Sea

The whole thesis consists of 3 parts. The first part will give brief introductions on the background which contains the social and cultural aspects and the introduction to the author of the masterpiece. In The cond part is going to have a brief

introduction of the old man and the a and analyze the masculine spirits in the old man and the a such as the faith optimistic and the wisdom of the hero. In the third part, it is the natural conclusion and the deep consideration.

I choo this as my topic due to the following reasons. Firstly, I am fond of literature works. Secondly, I am quite familiar with this novel as this is one of the texts in our intensive teaching cour and I have taught this text for more than 3 times. Last but not the least, I’m deeply appreciated to the masculine spirit and hope I can get and practice it in my future. For the above facts, I lect the subject of The Masculine Spirit of The Old Man and the Sea as the title of my paper.

I hope by studying this novel we can know more about the author Hemingway and his honorable masculine spirit. “A man can be destroyed but not be defeated.” Such kind of spirit can
