invent, find, find out, discover的区别

1. discover

意为“探索/发现”，表示“偶然”或“经过努力”发现客观存在的事物、真理或错误，即指发现原来客观存在但不为人所知的事物，也可表示发现已为人所知的事物的新的性质或用途。如：

Columbus discovered America in1492. 哥伦布1492年发现了美洲。

We soon discovered the truth. 我们很快就弄清了真相。

I discovered (that) she was a good cook. 我发现她是个烹饪好手/她很会烧菜。

2. invent

意为“发明”，指通过劳动运用聪明才智“发明/创造”出以前未存在过的事物。如：

Who invented the telephone? 是谁发明电话的？

He invented a new teaching method. 他发明了一种新的教学方法。

Edison didn''t discover electricity, but invented the light bulb.

爱迪生不是发现了电，而是发明了灯泡。

find vt.

(1)To come upon after a arch. 找到，发现，感到，查明，得到，通过寻找遇到；强调在经过“寻找”（look for）后指找到或发现自己所需要的东西或丢失的东西，着重指找到的结果（找到或找不到），又可以表示“（偶然地）发现”；如：

We've found oil under the South Sea. 我们已在南海发现了石油。

They finally found a way. 他们终于找到了办法。

Found the hidden leak in the pipe. 在烟斗上找到一个隐藏的缺口

(2)To discover or ascertain through obrvation, experience, or study:

发现，确定：通过观察、经验或研究发现或查明。

Found a solution; find the product of two numbers; found that it didn't really matter.

发现解决办法；发现两个数的结果；发现无关紧要。

To perceive to be, after experience or consideration. 认为：经验或考虑之后认知。

Found the gadget surprisingly uful; found the book entertaining.

发觉这个妙计非常有用；认为这本书很有趣

I found a watch on the road. 我在路上发现了一块手表。

I found my cat asleep in my bed. 我发现猫睡在我的床上。

(3)偶然或意外地发现，意思上等于by chance，例如：

She found a picture lying on the pave-ment. 她在人行道上发现了一张照片。

They found a really good bar near the central square.

他们在中央广场附近发现了一家很棒的酒吧。

The parents came home and found their son asleep on sofa.

父母回到家发现他们的儿子在沙发上睡觉。

(4)认识到或意识到，发现，发觉，意思上等于to realize or notice，后面常常连接由that 引导的从句。例如：

He finds that it pays to be honest. 他认识到诚实终受益。

We find it difficult to understand his lecture. 我们觉得他的演讲很难理解。

Mary found (that)she was really looking forward to getting that job.

玛丽意识到她真的企盼得到那份工作。

(4) (经过搜寻、询问，努力，研究等)发现某人某事物，例如：

After months of arching, the doctors finally found the cure for the dia.

经过几个月的研究，医生们终于找到了治疗这种疾病的方法。

Can they find us a safe hotel. 他们能给我们找一家安全的旅店吗？

One thing I find in the big city is that people are more strange.

我发现生活在大城市的一个情况就是人们都很生疏。

It was found that 70% of the young people were against this.

调查发现70%的年轻人反对这件事。

(5)得到或找回，找到，意思等同于to get back or obtain，例如：

Did you find the car you lost? 你找到你丢的那辆车了么？

I can't find the car keys. 我找不到车钥匙了。

The missing boy has not been found yet. 那个失踪的男孩还没找到。

由find组成的有很多短语，比如find onelf(发现了自己的能力所在)，find its way(找到方式)等，find out 也是其中之一。

4. find out

(1)find sth. out (经研究或询问)了解到，找出信息，后面常和由特殊疑问词(what/

when/how/who等)引导的从句连用。例如：

Can you find out what time the plane leaves? 你知道飞机几点起飞吗？

The engineer hurried to find out when the accident happened.

工程师赶忙去事故找什么时间发生的。

find sth. out 也常常和由that引导的从句，意思同上。例如：

The students found out that their teach-er was ill. 学生们发现老师病了。

The wife found out that her husband liked India better. 妻子发现她丈夫更喜欢印度。

(2)find sb. out 发现某人不诚实，违法，说谎等。例如：

I've found you out at last. 我终于把你揭露了。

After years of cheating the company, she was finally found out.

多年来她一直欺骗公司，最后终于被发现。

He had been lying to the taxman but it was years before he was found out.

他一直欺骗税务部门，但是多年后才被查出来。

(3)To ascertain (something), as through examination or inquiry.

通过观察研究或询问查明（某事）；强调寻找后的结果。通常表示“弄明白，搞清楚，查明”。如：

The teacher wanted to find out who had broken the door. 老师想查明是谁弄坏了门。

I found out the phone number by looking it up. If you're not sure, find out.

通过查找我查到了电话号码。如果你不肯定，查一查。

Plea find out when the ship sails for New York. 请打听一下那艘船什么时候开往纽约。

Plea find out what time the delegation will come. 请查一查代表团什么时候来。

(4)To detect the true nature or character of; expo: 发现；探明真相或性质；暴露：

Liars risk being found out. 骗子被揭穿的危险。

(5)To detect and apprehend; catch: 探明并逮捕；抓住：

Most embezzlers are found out in the end. 大多数贪污犯最后都被查出并逮捕归案。

A find 找到，发现的意思

B find out 有弄清真相，找出, 发现, 查明（真相等），认识到，弄清楚的意思 做“发现”讲时，是指发现一种无形而隐藏的东西

find 和 find out 都可译做发现，但发现的过程不一样。

find是“偶然发现”或“没有困难或几乎没有困难地发现”。如：

He found a dead cat at the door. 他在门口发现一只死猫。

而find out却是强调经过一番过程，经了解和查询而搞清楚，弄明白某一情况。如：

I will try to find out who broke the window. 我会尽力查出是谁打破了窗户。

C 观察 肯定不对

D discover 指“探索/发现”某种本来存在，而以前未被发现的事物或未为人所知的东西。

find强调找的结果（找到或没找到），I could not find my watch anywhere.

look for 强调找的过程（不知能不能找到），I has looked for my watch for a day.

find out指查明事实的真相，I found out that he was a thief.

discover指发现本来就存在去一直没被发现的东西，哥伦布发现新大陆就用discover。

另外，invent也常在一起辨析，指发明原先没有的东西。
