Enrollment at The University of Alabama reached a record

high of 38,563 for fall 2017, up more than 2 percent from last

year’s record class of 37,665. More than 40 percent of UA’s

7,407-member freshman class scored 30 or higher on the ACT,

and 38 percent were in the top 10 percent of their high school

graduating class. The entering class in 2017 carries an average

high school grade-point average of 3.72, with 34 percent having

a high school GPA of 4.0 or higher.

Scholars with more than 500 currently enrolled.

Ranked among the top 60 public universities in the nation in

U.S. News and World Report’s annual college rankings for more

than a decade, UA ranked 51st among public universities in the

2018 rankings. UA’s latest college rankings include:

The School of Law is ranked 26th among all law schools in

the nation (ninth among public universities), spring 2017.

The School of Library and Information Studies is ranked 28th

nationally (25th among public universities) in the latest rankings

for library schools, spring 2017.

University of Alabama students continue to win prestigious

national awards. Fifty-one UA students have been named

Goldwater Scholars, including four in 2017. The University of

Alabama has produced a total of 15 Rhodes Scholars, 16 Truman

Scholars, 32 Hollings Scholars and 11 Boren Scholars.

Thirty UA faculty have received NSF CAREER Awards, the

nation’s most prestigious recognition of top-performing young

scientists, in disciplines ranging from nanoscience and

engineering to biological sciences.

Dr. Samantha Hann, UA associate professor of geological

sciences, is one of many faculty recognized nationally for

rearch. Hann is one of 102 scientists who received the 2014

Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, the

highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on science and

engineering professionals in the early stages of their

independent rearch careers.

Fourteen University of Alabama alumni and students won

Fulbright awards for 2017-18. Five UA students and alumni

received Fulbright rearch awards. Nine 2017 graduates won

awards as English teaching assistants overas.

U.S. News and World Report ranks The University of

Alabama’s Manderson Online Business Master’s programs

14th in the nation. The rankings are bad on level of

accreditation, faculty credentials, admissions lectivity,

reputation for excellence among peer institutions and academic

and career support rvices offered to students.

Public Accounting Report's 2017 rankings place UA's

Culverhou School of Accountancy's undergraduate program

venth overall and first for a program with a faculty size between

17 and 23 as well as first in the South. The master’s programs

are ranked ninth overall, and the doctoral program is ranked

venth.

PRWeek Magazine has recognized the public relations

program in The University of Alabama’s College of

Communication and Information Sciences as one of the top five

programs in the nation ven times.
