Reference:

Life: Take It Easy

To go on a journey is often full of hardships, but so long as one

lives

he proceeds on his life's journey. Different people go along

differently.

Some take hasty steps in anxiety. Obsd with reaching the next

goal in

time, they spare no time for sighteing along the way, nor do they

have a

clear view of where their long roads end. Others travel leisurely like

tourists. They would take time off now and then for a look at

blooming

flowers or fallen petals. They would stop to admire clouds gathering

and

dispersing. Even when they go against the wind or are caught in the

rain,

they never get annoyed, for worries slip off their minds as from an

open net.

1 Everyone goes his way in life. What makes a difference is: does

he have a

pleasant trip enjoying the landscape along the way?

Cramped is one's workplace, narrow is one's residence and small

is the

social circle one moves about---such limitiedness in space entails lack

of

variety which is the source of some people's complaint. But others are

always

contended and happy for he can adapt himlf to different

circumstances.

Compared with the vastness of the univer it is only a tiny spot

one

occupies on earth. However, though larger than the ocean is the sky,

even

larger is the human mind, for in it imagination can come and go on

the wing

without limitation.

To drink at a gulp is a quick way to quench thirst, but it gives no

taste

of the high grade tea. One may eventually win what he has t his

mind to,

only to find that he has lost quite a lot. Perhaps what he los is ever

better than what he gains.

Life, when petrified by material desires, is as callous as stone,

while

tho emingly worthless things always remain fresh and full of

spirit.

In their journey through life, some people hurry on with a heavy

heart in

pursuit of fame and gain, while others go with an easy, grace,

enjoying

themlves in harmony with nature.

I love you becau you are

so beautiful like a lily in the spring garden.

Wedlock: as Vulnerable as a Porcelain Bowl

What a prent-day married couple lacks is not love at wedding

period, but mutual tolerance and admiration in the years to come.

An accident occurs this way. While the wife is washing bowls

and dishes, one porcelain bowl slips from her hand and breaks.

“What’s wrong with you? Is a bowl so hard to hold?” remarks the

husband.

“What worth is it to merit your regret?” retorts the wife who feels

wronged. “My finger cut by the broken piece is no concern of yours!”

“Brook not a word of blame for your own mistake,” says the

irritated husband, “how unreasonable you are!”

“A word of blame! Am I your houmaid? By what are you

justified to blame me? Why not you, same as me with two hands,

wash bowls and dishes?” the wife has been goaded into an angry

reply.

“You simply irrational!” shouts the husband, thumping the table

indignantly. “You are so savage and absurd!”

“I am born savage and absurd! What can you do about it?” says

the woman defiantly, with arms akimbo. “Do you think you didn’t get

married with your eyes open wider? And now regret for it? Think of

your old sweetie again…”

Before she can finish it, a slap had landed on her face.

“You beast! Strike me like that!” The woman covers her cheek

and threatens. “No getting along with you. Divorce!”

“As you like. Divorce is no threat to me.”

The next day they got divorced, and the home went to pieces, just

like a porcelain bowl --- an accidental slip would break it.

How many couples’ wedlock is thus brought to an abrupt end! It

often results from such indiscretion and impulsiveness that are

regarded by today’s young people as modern and stylish. Home is no

more than a porcelain bowl, which gives its owners something to fall

back on. Simple food the though the bowl contains, it is adequate to

nourish one throughout one’s life. This porcelain bowl, therefore,

needs cherishing. It is so vulnerable that once broken it can hardly be

pieced together by painstaking efforts, the glued cracks will still be

there as an everlasting reminder of the unpleasant past.

You the wi,tell me,why should our days leave us,never to

6 Level of Art and Length of Dress

Though entirely different from each other, art and dress

sometimes are so do to each other that the artistic level was even

quantified with the length of dress. Let’s firstly take a look at the

clothes fashion, which is undoubtedly an art in which the principle of

the dress length is interpreted in the most primary form. It goes

without saying that the spring and summer fashions are all diaphanous

with some parts of the body expod completely. While the models

stand on the stage in the lightest and most transparent dress,it is as

if the audience and the models were performing The Emperor's New

clothes. Nobody dears to utter a word for fear of being mocked as

shallow. Winter dress have also found their way into such style.

With materials apparently belonging to winter, the winter dress are

designed with even more parts of the body expod. What is

unnecessary to screen is cloaked while what is to be hidden left bare.

As for what is to be hidden underwear fashion and swimming wear

fashion, they are more ud by tho pretentiously rious men to

undertake the obscenity in the name of art. To be frank, it isn't the

terribly scanty cloth that pos an attraction to the eyes of the men.

艺术的高度与裙子的长度:the level of art and the length of

skirts

风马牛不相及be totally different, have nothing to do with each

other, be entirely irrelevant;这是风马牛不相及的两码事。 There are

two totally different matters.

The cost of this

flood damage is impossible to quantify.

It goes without saying that…;It's lf-evident

that.;It's axiomatic that...;人们都想过一种好日子,这自不待言。It goes without saying that people want to lead a白rod life.

5.台上台下:这里应该理解为audience and the models

The sun

is hidden in the cloud.

obscenity

3.谁也不敢吱声:Nobody dears to utter。word; Everybody

frank, it isn't the terribly scanty cloth that. pos an attraction to

the eyes of the men说到底:in the last analysis, in reality, in fact,

to be frank

I ud to feel sorry for that ugly black piece of stone lying like an ox in

front of our door;none knew when it was left there and none paid any

An Ugly Stone

attention to it,except at the time when wheat was harvested and my

grandma, eing the grains of wheat spread all over the ground in the

front yard of the hou, would grumble:"This ugly stone takes so much

it away someday."

Thus my uncle had wanted to u it for the gable when he was

building a hou,but he was troubled to find it of very irregular shape, with

no edges nor comers, nor a flat plane on he wouldn't bother to

break it in half with a chil becau the river bank was nearby, where he

could have easily fetched a much better stone when my

uncke was busy with the flight of steps leading to the new hou he didn't

take a fancy to the ugly stone. One year when a mason came by,we asked

him to make us a stone mill with my grandma put it:"Why not take

this one,so you won't have to fetch one from afar."But the mason took a

look and shook his head:he wouldn't take it for it was of too fine a quality.

It was not like a fine piece of white marbke on which words or

flowers could be carved, nor like a smooth big bluish stone people ud to

wash their clothes stone just lay there in silence, enjoying no

shading from the pagoda trees by the yard, nor flowers growing around

a result weeds multiplied and stretched all over it,their stems and

tendrils gtadually covered with dark green spots of mass. We children

began to dislike the stone too,and would have taken it away if we had

been strong enough;all we could do for the prent was to leave it

alone, despite our disgust or even curs.

9 The only thing that had interested us in the ugly stone was a little pit

on top of it,which was filled with water on rainy days after a

rainfall, usually, when the ground had become dry, there was still water in

the pit, where chickens went to every month when it came to
