As food is to the body, so is learning to the mind. Our bodies
grow and muscles develop with the intake of adequate nutritious
food. Likewi, we should keep learning day by day to maintain
our keen mental power and expand our intellectual capacity.
Constant learning supplies us with inexhaustible fuel for driving
us to sharpen our power of reasoning, analysis, and judgment.
Learning incessantly is the surest way to keep pace with the times
in the information age, and an infallible warrant of success in
times of uncertainty.
Once learning stops, vegetation ts in. It is a common fallacy
to regard school as the only workshop for the acquisition of
knowledge. On the contrary, learning should be a never-ending
process, from the cradle to the grave. With the world ever
changing so fast, the cea from learning for just a few days will
make a person lag behind. What's wor, the animalistic instinct
dormant deep in our subconsciousness will come to life,
weakening our will to pursue our noble ideal, sapping our
determination to sweep away obstacles to our success and
strangling our desire for the refinement of our character. Lack of
learning will inevitably lead to the stagnation of the mind, or even
wor, its fossilization, Therefore, to stay mentally young, we
have to take learning as a lifelong career.
In my opinion, the schoolwork now being assigned to high
school students is too heavy. While it is true that students need
to study, they need other things as well if they are to grow into
healthy and well-rounded adults. High should be allowed more
time for play. Plying is not wasting time, as some think. It gives
them physical exerci, and also exerci their imagination.
Which tends to be stifled by too much study. Finally, the pressure
put on high school students by excessive schoolwork can cau
rious stress, which is unhealthy physically and mentally. I do
Lost time is never found again. This is something which I
learned very clearly last mester. I spent so much time fooling
around that my grades began to suffer. I finally realized that
something had to be done. It was time for a change.
Now I have a new plan for using my time wily. I have t
my alarm clock ahead half an hour. This will give me a head start
on the day. I have also decided to keep a log of what I do and
when I do it. Looking back on what I’ve done will give me some
ideas on how to reorganize my time.

However mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it
and call it hard names. It is not so bad as you are. It looks poorest
when you are richest. The faultfinder will find faults in paradi.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant,
thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhou.
The tting sun is reflected from the windows of the alms-
hou as brightly as from the rich man's abode; the snow melts
before its door as early in the spring. I do not e but a quiet
mind may live as contentedly there, and have as cheering
thoughts, as in a palace. The town's poor em to me often to
live the most independent lives of any. May be they are simply
great enough to receive without misgiving. Most think that they
are above being supported by the town; but it often happens that
they are not above supporting themlves by dishonest means.
Which should be more disreputable. Cultivate poverty like a
garden herb, like sage.
Do not trouble yourlf much to get new things, whether
clothes or friends, Turn the old, return to them. Things do not
change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts.

Whether sixty or sixteen, there is in every human being's
heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of
what's next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your
heart and my heart there is a wireless station: so long as it

from men and from the infinite, so long are you young.

An individual human existence should be like a river—small
at first, narrowly contained within its banks, and rushing
passionately past boulders and over waterfalls. Gradually the
river grows wider, the banks recede, the waters flow more quietly,
and in the end, without any visible break, they become merged
in the a, and painlessly lo their individual being.

Youth
By Samuel Ullman
Youth is not a time of life; itis a state of mind; it is not a matter
of rosy cheeks, red lips and suppleknees; it is a matter of the will,
a quality of the imagination, a vigor of theemotions; it is the
freshness of the deep springs of life.
Youth means a temperamentalpredominance of courage
over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over thelove of ea.
This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20.
Nobodygrows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by
derting our ideals.
Yearsmay wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm
wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear,lf-distrust bows the heart and
turns the spirit back to dust.
Whether 60 or 16, there is inevery human being’s heart the
lure of wonders, the unfailing appetite for what’snext and the
joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and myheart,
there is a wireless station; so long as it receives messages of
beauty, hope, courage and power from man and from the infinite,
so long as you areyoung.
When your aerials are down, andyour spirit is covered with
snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, thenyou’ve grown
old, even at 20; but as long as your aerials are up, to catchwaves
of optimism, there’s hope you may die young at 80.

Ah, beautiful Paris. For centuries this city has attracted the
admiration of the world. The allure and charm of Paris captivate
all who visit there.
Where can you discover the charm of Paris for yourIf. Is it
in the legacy of all the French rulers who worked to beautify their
beloved city? Is it in the famous castles, palaces, statues and
monuments? Can you it in the world-class muums, such as the
Louvre? Perhaps Paris' allure lies in the zest and style of the
Parisians.
When you visit Paris, you don't have to spend all of your time
visiting muums and monuments. They are certainly worthy of
your time, but ignore them for a day. First take some time to look
around and experience life in Paris. You'll find it charming.
Take a stroll along the Seine River. Brow through the art
vendors colorful paintings. Peek through delicate iron gates at
the well kept gardens. Watch cloly for the French attention to
detail that has made France synonymous with good taste. You
will e it in the design of a doorway or arch and in the little
fountains and quaint balconies. No matter where you look, you
will find everyday objects transformed into works by art.
Spend some time in a quiet park relaxing on an oid bench.
Lie on your back on the green grass. When you need refreshment,
try coffee and pastries at a sidewalk cafe. Strike up a conversation
with a Parisian. This isn't always easy, though. With such a large
international population living in Paris, true natives are hard to
find the days.
As evening comes to Paris, enchantment ris with the mist
over the riverfront. You may hear music from an outdoor concert
nearby classical, jazz, opera or chansons, tho French folk songs.
Parisians love their music. The starry sky is their auditorium. You
can also hear concerts in the chateaux and cathedrals. In Paris the
Music never ends.
Don't miss the highlight of Paris evening: eating out.
Parisians are proud of their cuisine. And rightly so; it's world
famous. Gourmet dining is one of the indispensable joys ofliving.
You need a special guidebook to help you choo one of the
hundreds of excellent restaurants. The capital of France boasts
every regional specialty, chee and wine the country has to offer.
If you don't know what to order, ask for the suggested menu. The
chef likes to showca his best dishes there. Remember, you
