Body: Animal Farm was written by George Orwell in 1945 and is highly acclaimed as his best novel. Throughout history, many critics think this novel to insinuate the dictatorship of Stalin in Russia. Orwell, by his unique literary skills, fully enfolds to us a society clouded by lies, and thus to rai people’s awareness of the danger caud by the concentration of power and of Stalin’s hypocrisy and cruelty. However, still, it is also sarcasm to the lfishness, greed, and corruption of human nature.
The story tells the revolution of the animals in the Manor Farm. The animals, enlightened by Old Major’s visionary dream, realized that their life was a suffering under human control. So, they launched a revolution, evicted Mr. Jones, their master and began to rule the farm of their own. They changed “Manor Farm” into “Animal Farm”, and implemented “Animalism” which decreed that all animals were equal. Confronted with all difficulties tho
ugh, the Animal Farm flourished with the effort of all the animals. Two pigs Snowball and Napoleon became the leader of the farm becau of their high intelligence and their contributions in the revolution. Snowball came up with various innovative ideas to improve and modernize the farm, but before the methods were carried out, he was percuted and evicted by Napoleon.
马援传Thus Napoleon became the only leader of the farm and bit by bit threw the farm into total dictatorship. He imparted great burden on the animals and fed them with less food. To improve the production, the animals desired a windmill, which toiled the animals to the last bit of energy, but which twice built, was twice destroyed. Boxer, a firm adherent of Napoleon who got ill in building the mill, was nt to the butcher’s in exchange of two boxes of wines. Years’ later, the windmill was built, but the animals except the ruling class, the pigs and the dogs, lead the same life as before the revolution. The pigs gradually became detached from other animals and got involved in human activities and human behaviors, like walking with their two hinds. And finally, they became the same oppressor as humans, and only one of the Seven Commandments left and was changed
to” All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.”
The tricks napoleon takes in this story to hone his position, such as deceiving, coaxing, and massacring to threaten, are not only allusion to Stalinism and Stalin’s cruelty in governing his country. Still more, it is an allusion to the communism in the 20th century in the whole world. This thesis analys the irony, hyperbole, and climax in this novel and how they help to illustrate why the endless revolutions in human society come to a tragic end, reflect the lfishness, greed and corruption of human nature and bring forth that it is the weakness of human nature that makes totalitarianism and dictatorship possible.
Irony: irony is a figure of speech that achieves emphasis by saying the opposite of what is meant, the intended meaning of the words being the opposite of their usual n. In Animal Farm防守对手, Squealer is a cunning propagandist. To maintain Napoleon’s position, he distorts facts and confounds right and wrong to brainwash the animals. One of his tricks is to compare the past to the prent, sparing no effort in depicting the suffering under the rule of Mr. Jones and covering the disadvantages and inequality of the prent. In this wa
存字开头的成语y, the always slow-minded animals can stay willingly under Napoleon’s oppression. When the pigs mix the milk in their food and enjoy for themlves all the apples, Squealer explains to the hunger-stricken animals that” Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. Our sole object in taking the things is to prerve our health. Milk and apples (this has been proved by Science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well-being of a pig. We pigs are brainworkers. The whole management and organization of this farm depend on us. Day and night we are watching over your welfare. It is for YOUR sake that we drink that milk and eat tho apples. “, and he keeps on reminding of the possibility of the return of Mr. Jones so that he could decrea the complaints. This makes the animals believe firmly the importance of the pigs and no one is aware of the fact that the pigs are living a luxurious life while they are working hard for them. Then, Squealer instills to the animals that Napoleon is always right and whatever he does is for a better management of the farm and for the welfare of all animals. Besides, he pushes all the faults to the already evicted Snowball, exaggerates the importance of Napoleon, lies that Boxer dies peacefully and leads all to believe in the prosperity of the farm. Squea
ler’s words from the beginning to the end are opposite to the real situation. And this throughout the whole novel is an irony. Readers are well aware of the situation, and it is becau readers know the truth and can feel the contrast between what the animals hear and the truth that this novel can more arou their resonance and their rentment to the ruling class.
士伍Hyperbole: hyperbole is the deliberate u of overstatement or exaggeration to achieve emphasis. In Animal Farm, Orwell us hyperbole with high frequency, making people laugh while also aware of the tragedy of the animals. This novel gives a very thorough description of the forged conspiracies and sabotages of Snowball. They say that he sneaks into the farm under the cover of the darkness and carries out his revenge on the farm. He steals corn, spills milk, breaks eggs, treads on edlings and destroys the tree barks. Everything involves Snowball even the lost keys. And even when they are found later, he is still the criminal. The crime done cannot be undone. Once he is considered to have committed the crime, he will always to have committed it, no matter the keys are found or not. This part leaves readers a deep impression and makes clear the shameless
means the pigs take to avert their responsibility and to t up their political enemies, even though the enemy no longer exists. More, with his dogs in attendance he ts out and makes a careful inspection of the farm buildings. He snuffs in very corner and finds with his keen n of smell the traces of Snowball almost everywhere, in the cow shed, the hous, and the corn field. He exclaims in a terrible voice, "Snowball! He has been here! I can smell him distinctly!"In this part, Snowball is told to be capable of everything. Readers, however, know that Snowball has been evicted and with no power at hand, he can do nothing. Besides, Napoleon is only a pig. How could he has a keener n of smell than dogs, can trace the “criminal”, and with such a certainty assure that all the crimes spring out of Snowball. His arbitrary and hypocritical words do deceive the animals in the farm, but it gives the readers a clear vision of the ignominy and the ugliness of their actions. Readers can find in the hyperbole the reasons to awe, and also the reasons to sigh.
