1. Test Outline
The article is frozen while containing a simulated meal, removed and placed in a hot oven.
Any damage to the article during the test is noted.
2. Test Specimen
Any item of ceramic, glass or other ware that is believed to be suitable for both freezing and cooking.
3. Apparatus
1. Freezer capable of sustaining -5 o C or lower for 24 hours.
2. Oven capable of sustaining 240+10 o C for 20 minutes.
4. Test Procedure
1. Apply a stain to the surface of the specimen and wash clear.
(A 1% aqueous solution of methylene blue or suitable alternative. The specimen may be immerd in a tank or bath of the staining material or brushed/wiped onto the surface).
2. Visually check that the specimen is not damaged.
3. Immer the specimen in water (at 21+3 o C) for one hour and then dry with a
cloth.
4. Take sponge pieces and thoroughly soak in water. Allow to drain so that water
will not pool excessively in or on specimen.
5. Place the wet sponges in or on the specimen so as to cover one half to two thirds
of the available horizontal surface area.

6. Place in the freezer at -5 o C or lower and leave for 24 hours.

not sustained any damage.
8. Within 45 conds place the specimen (and sponges) into an oven at 240+10 o C

9. Remove from the oven and allow to cool on an insulated surface.

11. Visually check the specimen for damage.
# If resistance to freezing only is required: allow the specimen to warm in air for 15 minutes and then apply 4.1 and 4.11
5. Test Report
Should contain: 1. Identification and description of the specimen. 2. Reference to this test method (PT36). 3. Description of any damage that may have occurred. 4. Any other relevant information.
