Now we are in the Humble Administrator’s Garden, which is one of the four most famous gardens in China. In the mid-Ming Dynasty, the imperial censor Wang Xianchen resigned from his post, returned to his hometown and built this garden on the site of Dahong Monastery. The name of the garden comes from the line “administration by the inept” in Idler’s Pro written by Pan Yue of the Jin Dynasty. Pan Yue was a man of letters and magistrate of Heyang County.
The designer of the garden was Wen Zenming, one of the Four Talent Painters in the Ming Dynasty. It took sixteen years to complete the garden. The principal element in its layout is water, which accounts for one fifth of its total area. Bing the largest of Suzhou’s garden, it takes up about five hectares of land consists of three ctions----east, middle and west.
The East Section lies directly inside the main entrance. 浏览器有哪些

The walkway alongside the hill side brook leads to the central ction and pass the Millet Fragrance Hall.
This hall faces a brook and luxuriantly green island with a pavilion on top. Behind the hall is the garden’s northern boundary, beyond which there ud to be paddy rice fields.
The character millet here refers to rice in our area south of the Yangtze River. When rice ripens, its fragrance can spread far, hence the name. For many years it was ud as a tea hou, and now it rves as a souvenir shop.

Now, let’s take the southern route to enjoy more. Hall of Distant Fragrance lies in the south of the central ction with the lotus pond to its north. The hall, where the owner of the garden ud to give banquets and meet visitors, is the main building in the middle ction. The building, a Ming structure, has windows on all four sides without walls. This hall is three bays wide and has entrances in both front and back, providing a nice view of the surrounding scenery.
Passing the Bamboo Studio and a zigzag stone bridge, we arrive at the Lotus Breeze on Four Side Pavilion, where the pools meet. Here, in mid-summer, luxuriant willows provide a cool shade, lotus flowers thrust upward from the water, and lotus-scented breezes caress people’s faces.
