4.TESTING
4.1 Hardness Test
(1)Purpo
This test is intended to measure the hardness of vulcanized rubber. As a rule, a spring type durometer (types A and C) shall apply to this test.
(2) Test Specimens
Prepare a specimen 12㎜ or more thick as a rule for A type ; if less that 12㎜ thick, place two or more specimens face to face preferably to make 12㎜ or more.
For C type, u a specimen 6㎜ or more thick ; if less than 6㎜, place face to face prefera
bly to make 6㎜ or more. If a surface to be measured(1) is not smooth, it shall be sanded to get smooth.
Note (1) : The surface to be measured shall be wide enough to permit the presr plane of the durometer at least to be covered by the said surface.
(3) Tester
U spring type hardness tester, type A or type C. An example of them is shown in Fig.1.
FIG. 1
When the presr plane(2) comes in contact with the test specimen surface, this hardness tester is to indicate the distance, by which the rubber surface brings back the presr foot(4) projecting beyond the center hole of the presr plane by means of spring pressure(3), as hardness in the graduation(5).
The tester shall be inspected at least every 3 months.
Note :
(2) The presr plane shall be square to the presr foot and have a center hole to permit the presr foot to get through. The diameter of the presr plane shall be 10㎜ or more.
(3) The tolerance on the graduation and the standard line (Fig.3) indicating the relation between the presr foot displacement and spring force shall be ±8 g for type A ; ±20 g for type C. No free play shall exist between the movement of the presr foot and that of the pointer.
