1 SCOPE
1.1
Products and Components Covered
All accessible surfaces that are printed, painted, hot stamped, vacuum metalized or tampo printed. 1.2 Exemptions
1.2.1 Paper products. 1.2.2 Fabrics. 1.3
Definitions ( Words defined are italicized and bolded once per ction.)
Coating : Layer(s) of material covering a ba material (including pigments, film solids and
dryers) applied to a product or its components and which can be removed by physical scraping with a scalpel or similar device without removing the substrate.
Substrate: The ba material or coating beneath a surface coating. If the sample has multiple coating layers, the substrate is the layer immediately below the surface coat. 1.4 Purpo
To ensure surface coatings have adequate adhesion.
2 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
2.1
Tampo Printed Areas :
clavichordThe printed areas must be completely recognizable from a distance of 20 in. (50.8 cm). 2.2
All other areas:
There must not be any evidence of coating removal (other than that generated by the scribe marks).

3 TEST METHODS
3.1 Test Environment (not applicable) 3.2 Equipment
∙ Sharp razor blade, scalpel, knife or other cutting device. ∙ Steel or other hard metal straightedge to ensure straight cuts.

∙ 0.5 in. (12.5 mm) wide High Performance Filament Tape, pressure nsitive rubber resin
with an adhesion strength of 50 ounce per inch (55N/100 mm width) width.1 ∙ Rubber erar on the end of a pencil. ∙ An illuminated magnifier ∙ Soft Brush.
3.3 General Test Requirements

3.3.1 All coating s must be thoroughly dried and cured prior to testing. The drying time may
vary among coatings. Allow a minimum of 24 hours prior to conditioning. 3.3.2 If package or instructions indicate u in water, precondition product per QSOP 0006-4430, Preconditioning Water
Products. For all other labeled products, precondition half the products per QSOP 0006-4400, Aging and half per QSOP 0006-4410, Humidity. 3.3.3 If the area is less than 0.5 x 0.5 inch (1.27 x 1.27 cm), or rough, curved, and/or irregular,
do not scribe the coated surface . 3.4 Procedure
3.4.1 If the area is 0.5 x 0.5 in. (1.27 x 1.27 cm) or more, with a flat, smooth surface, place the
surface on a firm ba and under the illuminated magnifier. Make parallel cuts as follows:
1. Cut 9 straight lines 1/16 inch (1.59 mm) apart through the coating.
2. Cut 9 additional straight lines, 1/16 inch (1.59mm) apart, and perpendicular to the
first group of lines. 3. After cutting, brush the area lightly with a soft brush to remove any detached flakes
or ribbons of coating .
3.4.2 Remove two complete laps of tape and discard. Remove an additional 3 in. (75-mm)
length at a steady (not jerked) rate.

3.4.3 Place the center of the tape over the grid and smooth into place by a finger. To ensure
good contact with the film rub the tape firmly with an erar. The color under the tape indicates good contact. 3.4.4 Within 90 ± 30 conds of application, remove the tape by pulling the free end rapidlydifferen
(not jerking) back upon itlf at as clo to a 180 angle as possible. See Figure 1.
