The Parkinson’s Painter
Norman Greenstein lives in Hartford, Connecticut, USA. After being diagnod with Parkinson’s, he decided to turn his dark diagnosis into a good chance to achieve a lifelong dream. Now, Norman Greenstein is known as “The Parkinson’s Painter”.
When Norman was young, he loved painting and dreamed of being an artist. But a teacher of an art school didn’t think he had a talent for painting after he showed his work to the teacher. Then Norman put his dream aside, and supported his family whole-heartedly. However, his love for painting was always in his heart. In 2008, when he was diagnod with Parkinson’s and had to get treatment, he decided to pick up the brush again. Then Norman began painting every day as a way to stay busy. He joyfully found that this creative work helped him face the problems of his Parkinson’s. He said, “Painting has brought me happiness and peace. It’s a very important activity for me. The simple movements while painting relax me.”
In addition to creating his own paintings, Norman also tries to help other people like him. He rais money to support the rearch on Parkinson’s. He shares his experience with people with Parkinson’s in an effort to help them find the same relief. Also, Norman lls his paintings. He gives away 20% of all sales to two Parkinson’s rearch organizations.
Norman didn’t give up his dream in the face of Parkinson’s. Instead, it has inspired him to work hard for his dream. And we may learn something from him. We never know what life will throw at us but we can choo how to face the difficulties in life.
