First of all, travel can help people learn different geography. When they have been to Tibet, they will know what plateau is; When they have been to Sahara, they will know what dert is; when they have been to Amazon, they will know what rain forest is;… Every new place they travelled is their best teachers to teach them geography.
Secondly, travel can help people understand various cultures. When people travel in their homeland, they can experience the customs of different peoples. For example, Chine love to go on their holidays in minority areas where many ethnic peoples live, such as Qiang People in Sichuan, Tibetan in Tibet, Dai People in Yunnan. Besides enjoying the breathtaking natural sceneries there, they can try hundreds of delicious foods and drinks, and celebrate many wonderful festivals with locals. Thus, travel will foster greater understanding among peoples of different traditions and bring harmony to China. In addition, by travelling abroad, people will experience exotic customs, cultures and traditions. They can also learn foreign languages which enable them to appreciate literature and know history.

I had read about housing heating many times and tried hard to imagine what on earth it was like, but I had always had a vague idea of it. The pipe may be too hot for you to feel long if the system is in good working order. Throughout the winter the heating system functions without stopping. It cannot be brought to a halt even on warmer days in early spring for fear that the pipe might break due to sudden falls in temperature. People who stay in such well conditioned rooms feel warm and cozy. The huge boiler, the core part of the system, must be looked after by technicians, day and night.
All this shows that providing central heating is a trade that involves rather intricate know-how. So if I had not had the opportunity to u and obrve the central heating system during my stay in Jinan, I might not have had a hands-on understanding of it up to now. Travel really enables me to look cloly at the world.
Indirect knowledge is indispensable, but experiences gained through travel are very uful supplements to what we have learned through reading.
