C. Free Discussion: Although we know that nowadays it is common for people to be a volunteer and devote their time and effort in some activities. Why do some people do it and some don’t? Why is volunteering important?
Suggested Answers
V olunteering works not only for tho receiving help but also for tho who do different kinds of volunteering acts. Truth be told, there are many reasons why volunteering is important and why it is beneficial to all concerned.
Firstly, when we volunteer our time for a good cau, the rewards we reap are far greater than any promotion we could get from work, or good grades from school. People who volunteer can’t help but feel just a little bit more positive about life. When we e the dire straits of others, we feel lucky and blesd to have a better life.
Another reason is that we imbibe in others the spirit of generosity and of giving back to others. “Pay it forward,” as volunteers would often tell people who ask why volunteering is important to them.
Still perhaps when asked why volunteering is important, we say that its importance lies in showing tho who need help that the world is still a beautiful place to live in, and that no matter what kind of tragedy strikes, there would always be a ray of hope.
V olunteering also gives hope to tho who may have lost their trust on humanity. We may even be instrumental in inspiring others to pick up their lives and start over, and perhaps also inspire others to volunteer their time, talent and resources.

Volunteer — Why and How
朴闵夏It is said that many westerners voluntarily devote part of their lives to rving others. The average American spends 50 hours every year doing volunteer work. The number of people, who attach great significance to volunteering, is on the ri. Needless to say, the importance of volunteer work cannot be overestimated. However, why do people choo to be volunteers? I believe the reasons are as follows.
People help others, motivated by their altruism. As an old Chine saying goes, “People are born virtuous.” It is natural that peo ple empathize with others. Therefore, we mentor children, visit the sick and care for the elderly. People take the responsibility of helping others, motivated by their faith.
In this ever-changing world, peace is considered priceless. People deeply believe that everyone should take the responsibility to make the world a better place. That is our aspiration. That is our hope. Therefore, we choo to be volunteers.
What steps should we take in preparing for such a role? We need to consider how much free time we have and what we are willing to sacrifice. Then, evaluate our skills and talents. The next step is to contact organizations which can help you find volunteer programs that are suitable for you. Finally, a genuine commitment to such a program is esntial.
Compassion is desperately needed in our world today. So if you are ready to show your commitment to helping others, become a volunteer today!

It gives me a great pleasure to recommend Mr. Cheng as a transfer to the School of Business Administration of your University in the summer quarter of 2012. He often participated in extracurricular activities contributing a great deal to community affairs. Though Mr. Cheng graduated from this college 5 years ago, he keeps contact with me very often. Worth y of mention also is his personality ─ honest, reliable, responsible and mature. Sample Writing 2
T o whom it may concern,
Scott Smith worked for me at XYZ T echnologies for three years as a nior technical instructor. I am writing this letter to confirm that his recent layoff from XYZ was not in any way tied to his performance, and to highly recommend him as an employee with your organization.
Had I been given the choice, I would not have laid Scott off. But it was not my decision to make. XYZ decided to withdraw from the PC market, balance expens with the anticipated reduction in sales revenue, and hire a consulting firm to evaluate long-term staffing needs. As a result, XYZ drastically reduced the size of its workforce by dissolving the entire PC division, including the technical training
department. Unfortunately, this major reorganization left no other position open for Scott. We regretfully had to let him go.
Scott is a conscientious, highly skilled technical instructor, worthy of at least a nior management
