As she skipped back to me, she said, “See you tomorrow, Mr. Man!” This time, he made a reply. In a soft gentle voice, he thanked her and said, “See you tomorrow.”
From then on, Bob and my daughter exchanged greetings each morning. Our friendship with Bob continued for many years. But, the sweetest day was when Bob attended my daughter’s high school graduation. Cultures across the world have different ways for people to greet one another. In New Zealand, they bump nos! The goal of the actions is to make others feel welcome. However, some people would rather say hello orally. They don’t like being touched. Neither does the nsitive plant. Some people keep the nsitive plant as a houplant becau of its interesting behavior. When you touch the leaves of the nsitive plant, it releas (释放) water from its leaves and stalks. As water runs to the plant’s ba, the leaves clo and the stalks droop. This caus the plant to look wilted (枯萎)!
The nsitive plant draws back from physical contact becau it doesn’t want you to touch it, of cour! Just like people, this plant nds physical signals that you should leave it alone. This reaction to touch is a defen system. Many animals and incts eat plants, so the nsitive plant learned to move to scare away predators (捕食者). Frightened by the sudden wilting, hungry animals move away to find a different plant to cat. Additionally, wilted plants don’t look mouth-watering. This encourages other nearby predators to look for their dinner elwhere.
If you touch the nsitive plant and it wilts, have no fear! It’s still a healthy plant. After a few minutes, it will nd water back to its leaves and stand straight up again. However, it takes lots of time for the nsitive plant to refresh itlf. Don’t touch the plant just to watch it wilt. It may em like fun, but it’s not fun for its refreshment.
It’s always important to pay attention to the body language of plants, animals, and other people! We should never want to make other living things uncomfortable, and especially not for our own entertainment.
