Book Review of Ethan Frome
Edith Wharton，the Pulitzer Prize-winning American author ,was best known for her stories and novels about the upper-class society into which she was born．And her works reveal concerns for artistic form and ethical issues.
Ethan Frome，first published in 1 9 1 1,was Wharton’s best known novella.In a way,her personal circumstances that might have influenced her mood and outlook .In the novel the writer depicted a love tragedy in a small town called Starkfield in New England bad on an account from obrvations at Frome's hou when the unnamed narrator had to stay there during a winter storm. The protagonist Ethan Frome，an ambitious young man，劳模精神quitted his college when his father got sick．After the death of his father,his mother grew ill and his cousin Zeena came to attend his mother．He married Zeena out of loneliness after his mother died．

Secondly,the description in the novel is also detailed,vivid and effective to engage me in whether the author is to building an image of a certain person or to portray the surroundings the characters are in.Here is an example.When it is to reprent Ethan in the fist chapter,the author us such ntences:There was something bleak and unapproachable in his face,and he was so stiffened and grizzled …… If required to describe such a person,I am totally unable to portray the person to such a detailed way with such preci and effective vocabulary.
