The Emperor’s New Clothes (I)
A long, long time ago, there was an emperor named Pardonius, who lived in a beautiful palace and loved clothes. He loved them so much that he had his tailors make him a fine new outfit every day.He loved them so much that he had his tailors make him a new outfit every day.
One day, two clever thieves came and told Pardonius they were famous weavers who could make him the finest cloth. Pardonius was very curious and hired them on the spot. He gave them a large sum of money.

Gaylord pretended to e the fine cloth when really he could e nothing. Finally, Pardonius could not wait any longer.He called the thieves to his court and demanded to e the fine cloth.

When Pardonius entered the weaving room, he saw nothing and thought to himlf what a fool he had been. He surely emed unfit to rule his own kingdom.However, he too blindly [ˈblaɪndli] looked pass the truth for fear of being a fool, and said aloud that the colors were simply beautiful and everyone agreed.
The following day, the Great Annual Parade[pəˈreɪd] was to begin. Everyone was eagerly expecting to e the Emperor’s new clothes. So not to disappoint them Pardonius pretended to dress himlf.But all he wore was his undershorts. Everyone pretended to s
ee the royal robes except for one clever boy who was thoroughly[ˈθʌrəli] surprid and called out,“Look, the Emperor has no clothes!”
Suddenly, the truth was spoken. Pardonius’ face flushed red and he said, “How will everyone forgive my vanity[ˈvænəti], my blindness? Oh, I’m so embarrasd.”The little boy replied, “Don’t worry, Emperor. We are as much of a fool for pretending, and have learned a good lesson.”From that time on, the boy came to live in the palace as Pardonius’ advisor. Becau of him, Pardonius became known as one of the wist emperors.

突然间,事实被揭穿了。帕多尼斯脸红了,他说:“大家怎么能原谅我的虚荣和愚昧呢?哦,我实在是太丢人了。小男孩儿回答道:“不用担心,皇帝陛下,我们也很傻,装作不知道,所以没什么分别,但是我们得到了很好的教训。从此,男孩儿成了皇帝的谋士,住在宫殿里。因为有了他的帮助,帕多尼斯被人们看作最贤明的皇帝中的一位。
