For many years, the world of long-distance running has been led by runners from Kenya and Ethiopia. However, what has made people most interested in is that many of the cha
mpions are from or trained at one specific Kenyan town: Iten. In fact, the town has even been called the “Home of Champions”. Several possible reasons for the town’s success are as follows.
Firstly, some say the key is the altitude. Training in high-altitude areas helps runners better get their bodies ud to lower oxygen levels. The town, which sits on the edge of Kenya’s Rift Valley, 7000 feet above a level, is perfect for such training. Runners from all over the world often go to Iten to train for veral weeks, but the benefits of high-altitude training will disappear in veral weeks too.
Secondly, being a successful runner is a way out of poverty. Needless to say, runners make a lot of money by winning competitions. Most of them u prize money to help their villages and families. Some even build training camps in Iten, which in turn helps the town’s growth as a center for distance running.
Furthermore, there’s not much entertainment in a far-away village like Iten. So most runners can focus on their training. Others believe that ________. Living at high altitude f英语的音标

Running is deeply rooted in its local culture.

Imagine a world like this: People don’t have to rai and kill animals for meat. It can be produced from carbon dioxide (CO2). It ems hard to believe, but that is exactly what an American company Air Protein* is working on now.
Founded in 2019 by John Reed, a materials scientist, the company Air Protein has developed an amazing meat product called Air Meat. It is made to recreate the taste of meat like beef, chicken, and pork. But instead of using real animals, it us microbes* to turn recycled CO2 into protein.
Air Meat is created by using the same process that NASA ud to create CO2 into food particularly for space travel in the 1960s. Using fermentation tanks, which John refers to as “protein farms,” in a process* similar to making yogurt or wine, Air Protein grows certain microbes and feeds them with a mix of carbon dioxide, oxygen, water and energy.
Renewable energy powers their production process. In this process, microbes can change CO2 into protein. By purifying and drying the protein, the final product is a flour* that can be made into meatless meat product. But they are richer in protein than traditional food.
