Chongqing Jiaotong University, situated on the south bank of the Yangtze River and at the foot of Mount Qinglong, with a beautiful campus covering an area of over 100 hectares, is an institution of higher education under the municipal government of Chongqing, P. R. China. Founded in 1951, it has developed into a multi-disciplinary university after over 50 years of unremitting efforts. Currently, Chongqing Jiaotong University has a number of prestigious specialties in civil engineering including Highway Engineering, Bridge and Structure Engineering, Harbor and Waterway Transportation, together with other non-engineering specialties such as Management, Science, Economics and Arts, etc. In all, the university has 13 schools (Civil Engineering and Architecture School, River and Ocean Engineering School, Machinery and Electronic Engineering School, Management School, Foreign Languages School, Finance and Economics School, Traffic and Transportation School, Humanities School, Computer Science and Technology School, Open Education School and Vocational Training School) and 3 departments (Graduate Department, Physical Education Department, Experiment Department and Social Science Department). The total enrolment of students was 22, 000 by the end of Sept.2007. Altogether, Chongqing Jiaotong University offers 44 specialties to undergraduates, 27 to graduate students and 3 to doctoral students. Now it has one National Qualification Education Center, one Engineering Rearch Center approved by the Ministry of Education, one Key Lab approved by the Ministry of Communications, ven provincial levels key disciplines, six municipal level qualified labs for core-cour education in Higher Institution, two municipal level model centers for experiment teaching, two municipal engineering technology centers, and one key rearch ba for municipal Humanities&Social Sciences. The university library has a collection of over 1.4 million books and journals, and the broad-band internet is accessible on every corner of the campus. There are approximately 1,700 faculty and staff, among whom 1,000 are full-time teachers with 470 having obtained nior titles. Among our faculty, six have been lected as national candidates for the Prominent Personnel Resources Project, two have been awarded the title of the Young and Middle-aged State-ranking Experts with Outstanding Contribution by the State Ministry of Personnel, and 120 are appointed experts at various levels.Finally, the most eminent three academicians on campus are outstanding members of the Chine Academy of Sciences. Furthermore, over 150 experts and scholars from other domestic and foreign universities are employed as adjunct professors. Chongqing Jiaotong University enjoys a reputation of high quality teaching. And in the past few years, great progress has been made in its students’ enrollment and in its graduates’ employment. The average rate of employment for students upon graduation has been over 90% for eight years in succession, for which honors have been awarded by all levels of governments to the university. Since its founding, the university has turned out over 40,000 graduates, many of whom have become backbones of their work units. For example, Zheng Jielian, academician of CAS, and Liu Xiaofeng, deputy-head of Sichuan Province. Chongqing Jiaotong University boasts a strong scientific rearch capacity and has made great contribution to the local economy. In recent years we have undertaken scientific rearch, designs and construction supervisions on 70 key projects at the national level and over 300 at the provincial or ministerial level, such as the Three Gorges Water Conrvancy Terminal Rearch Project, the Project on Chengdu—Chonqqing Freeway, the Canton Humen Bridge, the Wanxian Yangtze River Bridge, the Chongqing Bund, the Chongqing Huanghuayuan Bridge, and many more. Three academic journals are publicly circulated, among which Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, circulates in over 50 countries. Agreements on cooperative programs have been signed between Chongqing Jiaotong University and some well-known foreign universities such as Kansas University (U.S.A), Drake University (U.S.A), Kettering University (U.S.A), Wilfrid Laurier University (Canada), Victoria University (Australia), Petersburg State Transport University, (Russia), Hannover University (Germany) and Hanoi International University (Vietnam), etc. Beginning from 2004, foreign students have been enrolled to study for degrees at this University. V. Application 1. Tho who wish to study at CJTU may ask the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges for the information related via email (waiban@). The applicant should inform CJTU of his/her education background and Chine language level. The following materials are required: A.Form For Foreigners Wishing to Study in Chongqing Jiaotong University / Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study Chine Language in Chongqing Jiaotong University B. Credentials and Transcript C. Physical Examination Record for Foreigners D. Two References (for Master cour, Doctorial Cour and scholarship Application) E. Applications for Fall term will be accepted from March to July, and Spring term from September to December. 2. The applicants who have met the admission requirements will receive an “Admission Notice” issued by CJTU and a “Visa Application Form” (JW202) issued by the Education Ministry of P. R. China. The applicant can apply for Visa with the above documents, Medical Report and original Blood Test Report to the nearest Chine Embassy. Admitted students must register at the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges within the Deadline for Registration on JW202, with the above-mentioned documents and 8 passport-sized photos.
