English Romanticism begins in 1798 with the publication of Wordsworth and Coleridge’s The Lyrical Ballads and ends in 1832 with Walter Scott’s death
It is a revolt of the English imagination against the neoclassical reason. The romanticism gave primary concern to passion, emotion, and natural beauty. The romanticists express a negative attitude towards the existing social or political conditions. They place the individual at the center of art. The English Romanticism is an age of poetry. Major romantic poets include Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Shelley and Keats.
The characteristics of Romantic literature:
Major Romantic Points: (1) a rebellion against neo-classicism
(2) express on imagination
(3) priorities been given to passion, emotion and feeling
(4) being clo to nature for its purity while the society is corrupting ;nature is the source or imagination

One of the great English poets, he was a leader of the romantic movement in England.
