(总分:180.00,做题时间:90分钟)
一、Unit 7(总题数:4,分数:180.00)
Passage One
A child who has once been plead with a tale likes, as a rule, to have it retold in identically the same words, but this should not lead parents to treat printed fairy stories as sacred texts. ①It is always much better to tell a story than read it out of a book, and, ifa parent can produce what, in the actual circumstances of the time and the individual child, is an improvement on the printed text, so much the better.
A charge made against fairy tales is that they harmthe child by frightening him or arousinghis sadistic(残暴的) impuls. To prove the latter, one would have to show in a controlled experiment that children who have read fairy stories were more often guilty of cruelty than tho who had not. Aggressive, destructive, sadistic impuls every child has and, on the whole, their symbolic verbal discharge ems to be rather a safety valve than a
n incitement to overt action. As to fears, there are, ! think, well-authenticated cas of children being dangerously terrified by some fairy stories. Often, however, this aris from the child having heard the story once. Familiarity with the story by repetition turns the pain of fear into the pleasure of a fear faced and mastered.
②There are also people who object to fairy stories on the grounds that they are not objectively true, that giants, witches, two headed dragons, magic carpets, etc., do not exist; and that, instead of indulging his fantasies in fairy tales, the child should be taught how to adapt to reality by studying history and mechanics. I find such people, I must confess, so unsympathetic and peculiar that I do not know how to argue with them. If their ca were sound, the world should be full of madmen attempting to fly from New York to Philadelphia on a broomstick or covering a telephone with kiss in the belief that it was their enchanted girl friend.
No fairy story ever claimed to be a description of the external world and no sane child had ever believed that it was.

Passage Two
Everyone knows how the story of Cinderella ends, but did you ever really think about how she spent her days before she met the prince? Her daily routine was not fascinating. She did everything from sweeping the floor to cooking the meals. If someone had asked Cind
erella, "Are there any kinds of houhold work that you particularly hate?" she probably would have answered, "Why, none, of cour. Houwork is my duty!" In the real world, however, most people have definite dislikes for certain sorts of houhold work. Two of the tasks are ironing clothes and washing dishes.
Ironing clothes is most hated becau it is not a task that can be completed quickly or thoughtlessly. Each piece of clothing must be handled individually, so ironing a basket of laundry can take hours! After ironing a piece of clothing with great caution, which requires smoothing out the fabric, and following the ams, you need to place it on a hanger as soon as possible. If you do not follow the directions carefully, it might become wrinkled and you have to start over. Perhaps that is why ironing is not a favorite thing to do. It calls for extreme attention to detail from beginning to end.
Another houhold job that many people dislike is washing dishes. Of cour, some people claim that this work is no longer a problem becau we have dishwashers now! However, no one would argue that dishes, silverware, and especially pots and pans washed in a dishwasher don't come out as clean as they do when washed by hand. For t
his reason, many of us continues to wash our dishes by hand, but we are not necessarily happy doing it. Cleaning dishes is a job that not only takes a lot of energy but also requires the patience to wash and dry them. In addition, unlike ironing clothes, washing dishes is a thing that usually must be done every day. I don't know how Cinderella felt about this particular task, but I believe that most people hate it as much as I do.
