Peter, a 5-year-old boy, showed such great interest in a shells that he would rush to pick them up with his 3-year-old sister, Shirley. They screamed out their joy as Peter collected his treasure into his pockets. For Peter, a shells lay shinning on the peaceful beach, waiting for him, just like stars twinkling ( 闪 烁 ) in the sky. One day, Peter was wandering through market with Shirley, with some shells in his pocket. Suddenly Peter found his younger sister was lagging ( 落 后 ) behind. He stopped and look
ed back, finding Shirley was standing in front of a toy shop and was staring at something with great interest.

Having counted the money, Peter put it carefully on the counter, asking again, "Sir, is it enough for my littl
e sister's doll?”

第四节 When Ben delivered milk to my cousin's home that morning, he wasn’t his usual sunny lf.
第五节 It was late November, and as a newcomer to Lawndale, California. I was delighted that milkmen still brought bottles of milk to doorsteps. In the weeks that my husband, kids and I had been staying with my cousin while hou- hunting, I had come to enjoy Ben’s sunny personality and cheerful conversation.
第六节 Today, however, he was in a bad mood as he dropped off his milk from his truck. He placed the some embarrassment, he told me two customers had left town without paying their bills, and he would have to cover the loss. One of the debtors owed only S 10, but the other was $79 in arrears (逾期欠款) and had left no forwarding (发送) address. Ben was upt for allowing this bill to grow so large.

“Are you kidding?” he replied. He looked up at me with a scowl. “It wasn’t your $79.” Indignation was clearly written on his face. Throwing him a comforting smile, I tried t
o get my point across to him but in vain. Every time he came, we’d joke about it. “Have you given her the milk yet?” “No,” he’d snap back. But he emed to light up a bit more. Then, six days before Christmas, it happened. Ben almost ran up the walk with a cheerful smile and a glint in his eyes, “I did it!” he said. “I gave her the milk as a Christmas prent.” I was on the verge of tears as I knew he meant it in his heart and the sunny boy had come back.
