I will be able to write an English poem following one of the 5 forms. (60% of the ss finish in class and 40% after class.) ▲过程与方法 Learning about English poems though extracting information, analyzing the characteristics of their forms, reading aloud and comparison. ▲情感、态度与价值观 I will Develop my love for English poems. | |||
教学分析 | ▲教材分析与重组 This passage is a 718-word reading text and a combination of introduction to poetry forms and 8 example poems. It would possible if we want to teach ss every characteristic of each form of English poems and appreciate 8 English poems in 40 minutes without reorgnizing the learning material. Conquently, we parate the introduction and the poems and get a 328-word text and 8 simple poems (6 of them are put into an envelope for each student and the other 2 as extra materials.). (See Appendix 1&2) Besides, we only focus on the major characteristics of each form, thus save time in analyzing the reading passage. ▲学生情况分析 Senior 2 ss have got better skills in reading. Most of them are able to literally appreciate literature works. Hardly have ss read English poems before, however, Chine poems are quite familiar to them. ▲教学重点 1. Let ss tell the major characteristics of 5 simple forms of English poems. 2. Help ss understand and appreciate 8 English poems. ▲教学难点 1. Help the ss understand why people say haiku is special. 2. Ss write their own English poems in class within limited time. | |||

1. Lead-in (2 min) 洗衣机水龙头 | T: Yesterday, we have learned about the basic knowledge of English poems by comparing them with Chine ones. Today, we will talk about another important aspect of English poems. Look at the Chine poems. What are the differences between them? T: (summarize ss’ answers into “form”) As you all know, Chine Poems have a variety of forms to follow. Do you think the same thing exists in English poems? T: (collect ss’ opinions) Yes or no? You’ll figure it out after this lesson.. | Compare the prented Chine poems and find out the differences. 2. Fast Reading (4 min) | T: (write the title—A Few Simple Forms of English Poems down on the blackboard) Now you have time to quickly glance through this passage and answer the questions on the screen. Mark out the key words if necessary. You’ve got only 2 minutes, so let’s do it as soon as passible. T (collect ss’ answers) lets ss get familiar with the names of the 5 forms of English poems. | Ss quickly read the passage and mark out the answers to teacher’s questions. 3. Focus on Nurry Rhymes 发明家有哪些(8 min) | T: Now let’s focus on the first form of English poems. Plea read the paragraph about nurry rhymes and fill-in the blanks. Am I clear? Go ahead. fly复数T: (after checking the answers) What we have put here are just the major characteristics of nurry rhymes. Open your envelopes. You have 6 poems in each envelope. Only one of them is a nurry rhyme. Plea pick it out according to the key words! (Poem D) T: Why do you think D is a nurry rhyme? Children’s poetry! Exactly! What about the other characteristics? I mean 3 “R”s. Now let’s take a part of this poem to the screen and e if it has all of the 3 “R”s. (T lets ss notice the repetition, rhyme and rhythm of the poem.) The 3 “R”s make the poem very easy to recite. But how can we read them out? Here is an example. (T read the first 2 lines out with beats.) Let’s try this together! (The whole class read the poem with beats.) Interesting? The beauty of it is far more than this. Get your hands and feet ready! (follow the song) | Ss recognize a nurry rhyme according to the characteristics of nurry rhymes and appreciate the poem from the following perspectives: repetition, rhyme and rhythm. T: The 3 “R”s make a poem as beautify as songs. To tell you the truth. Poem D is not the only one that has 3 “R”s. We have another one. Can you point it out? (Poem A) T: Do you think Poem A can also be read out in the same way. Practice reading it loudly with your neighbours! Don’t forget to clap your hands. (ask one of the students to read part of the poem after practicing) T: Do you think the 3 “R”s also work well in this poem? Is there any repetition? Do it rhyme? Is | ||||
4. Focus on List Poems (4 min) | the rhythm strong or week? All of the 3 “R”s! Now I would like you to compare anther poem with it. Plea take out Poem B. Compare the 2 poems from the 3 perspectives and fill-in the 3 blanks here. 30 conds! T: (after checking the answers) Although Pome A and B are quite different, they belong to the same group. They are list poems. The reason why we call them list poems is that they ...(are like lists or list things) Them what are listed in Poem A? (the things “I” saw) What about Poem B? (the excus for losing the game) T: Just now we’ve compared two list poems. Got a better understanding? Comparison is a common method to appreciate poems. We will u it again later. Now plea go back to the reading passage and complete Paragraph 3. (check answers) | Ss fine out a similar poem with Poem D (by similar I mean they both have the 3 “R”s) and practice reading it (Poem A) out in the same way. Ss compare Poem A and B and analyze the differences and similarities of them. Ss read both poems to get to know what are listed in both poems. T: Most of the poems of the 2 forms are as beautiful as songs. Well, we also have other forms of poems that are as beautiful as paintings? Now let’s move on to cinquain. Who can read the introduction for cinquain in Paragraph 4 for us. Can you summarize the characteristics of cinquain? T: Now that we have only 3 poems left, which one do you think is a cinquain? (Poem F) Cinquain do not have 3 “R”s. However we can still read it out in a poetic way! Who would like to try it? T: (after ss’ reading) As you’ve mentioned, cinquain conveys clear pictures. Can you e any picture in this poem? Who is in the picture? Who’s brother? What do you brother look like? How about his character? (Or what kind of person do you think your brother is?) How do you think of your brother? Why? T: See, you can get not only a clear picture but also much hidden information from this poem. | Ss read the paragraph about cinquain and summarize the characteristics of it (conveys pictures and has only 5 lines). Ss recognize a cinquain in the poems. 5. Focus on Cinquain (6 min) | T: Here is another cinquain. What is it about? Several words are missing. Let’s try to get them back together. (let ss read out their own poem after composing) T: You succeeded in filling in the missing words. That means you already began thinking about the rule of its 5 lines. Actually, each line of a cinquain has its own characteristics. Look at this chart. Line 1 has one noun and is the subject of the poem? What about T: The 5 lines of cinquain give us a clear direction to follow if we want to write one. What’s more, it helps the poem achieve another kind of beauty. Do you agree? Many creative poets have their poems written in special shapes. Look! (Prents pictures) You can also have a try! | Ss try to complete another cinquain about butterfly and notice the features of each line of the 5. Ss try to fill-in the chart about the features of the 5 lines. 7. Focus on Haiku (3 min) | T: You have just completed a poem about butterfly. I have also prepared a poem about butterfly for you in your envelopes. Have you noticed it? Which poem? (Poem E) T: Let’s read it together. (after reading) This poem is typical haiku—the four form we’re gonna learn today. Are there any similarity between cinquain and haiku. (convey clear pictures) T: What pictures can you e in this poem? What’s the connections between a butterfly and a fallen blossom? Do you think it’s special? That’s where haiku is different from cinquain. T: Another example. Read it together. Do you thin it is special? Why? Here is a missing word in the first line. It’s a word for one of the four asons. Can you decide which ason? Why? | Ss read two typical poems of haiku and appreciate the pictures conveyed in the poems. 6. Roughly Appreciate Tang Poems (3 min) | T: Haiku is not the only Asian form of poems that is popular with English writers! A more popular ? (Tang Poems) which is translated form ....? (Chine) T: Take out Poem C and listen. (a record) T: Who known the original Chine Poem? (ask ss to read the Chine poem out) T: Which one do you prefer? Chine or English? So do I. Although the English translation may not be as beautiful as the original Chine poems, it is a good way to make our splendid culture known to the whole world. 7. Summary (3 min) | T: Today we have learned 5 different forms of English poems and their characteristics. Which one do you like best? (Nurry Rhymes: It’s easy to learn but not easy to write. If you would write one, don’t forget to sing it out! Cinquain: This one is easy for you to write. You can try to write about you classmates or teachers following the rules of 5 lines. Haiku: Though difficult, it’s worth trying! Tang Poems: Why not translate another Chine Tang poem into English. 8. Writing (7 min) | With so many forms of poems to choo form you may eventually begin writing your own ones. Pleasure take out the piece of paper from your envelopes. You’re going to write the first English poem in your life on it! Requirement! 1. Choo one of the 5 forms to follow. If you don’t want to follow any one. You can even develop your own form. 2. Share your works with your neighbours after you finish. 3. Only 3-5 students will take the honour to prent their works in class. And they should read their poems out in a poetic way. Understand? Are you ready? Go! | Ss choo one of the five forms or develop their own forms to follow and write their own poems.
