世界经济学家
在欧洲经济学会的资助下，2000年Ecares在其博士论文中给出了一个经济学家比较能接受的世界经济学家和研究机构的排名，也给出了世界大学和经济学家的成绩随时间演变的情况，分析了关于美国大学和非美国大学之间的差距。Ecares使用的是E-conlit数据库（lit），这个数据库索引了世界上650种经济学杂志，组成比较全面和权威的“经济学文献”（中国目前只有一种刚刚被索引的杂志《Annals of Economics and Finance》）。根据E-conlit数据库，1994-1998年间，大约有55000人在经济学文献上发表了文章，Ecares对各种影响排名的因素进行了综合考虑，尽量剔除了一些主观和随机因素带来的干扰，因此其排名为大多数经济学家认可。
根据排名，美国哈佛大学经济学系在所有11种方法中是经济学文献最大产出者。芝加哥大学排在美国哈
佛大学之后。两者之间的差距很大，哈佛大学的文章超过17000页，而芝加哥大学不足11000页。宾夕法尼亚、麻省理工学院和斯坦福大学位于前五名。加州大学伯克利分校、西北大学、密歇根州立大学、耶鲁大学和哥伦比亚大学是前十名。在排名中第一所非美国大学是伦敦经济学院，排在16名，到第42名是第一个非英语语言的大学，荷兰的提尔堡大学。前100名的机构中，有64个机构在美国，22个在欧洲，加拿大8个，亚洲2个，澳大利亚2个，以色列2个。实际上，如果再加上经济学家的排名，就会发现美国和加拿大有更多顶尖大学。

一。目前任教于美国印第安纳州立大学。石寿永1965年出生，1984毕业于原华中理工大学（现华中科技大学）经济系管理学院物资管理工程专业，后到加拿大多伦多学习，1998年获得经济学硕士学位，1991年获得经济学博士学位；1991-1993年任加拿大文森大学助理教授，1994-1997年任加拿大皇后大学主力教授，1998-1999年在美国芝加哥联邦储备银行任访问学者；1997-2000年任加拿大皇后大学副教授，现为美国印第安纳州立大学经济系终身教授。其主要研究领域包括宏观经济理论、国际经济理论、货币理论与政策。他的主要贡献是建立了一套能够修正原有货币理论不足的新的货币基础理论。
钱颖一（QianYingyi），全球排名第71位，华人经济学家中排名第二。目前
任教于加州大学伯克利分校。他1981年毕业于清华大学数学系，之后到美国耶鲁大学获得管理科学与运筹学硕士学位。他同时取得了美国哥伦比亚大学统计学硕士学位，1990年获得美国哈佛大学经济学
博士学位，1990-1999年任美国斯坦福大学经济系助理教授，1999-2001年任美国马里兰大学经济学助理教授。钱颖一教授主要研究领域是比较经济学、转型经济学和中国的经济改革与发展，他是著名华人经济学家中在国内发表中文文章最多的一位。曾经兼职于国内清华大学、北京大学等机构。
