Analysis of Lucy’s Character Through Her Quandary of Unwanted Pregnancy
When people are in trouble or crisis, they ek solutions to it although at the very beginning they just plunge into panic. In the story In Trouble 优雅的美女written by Philip Roth, the protagonist Lucy finds herlf in trouble. What is her quandary? An unwanted pregnancy at her best time in the college. Yet somehow she gets over with the quandary and accept the reality not without struggles. Through her final decision of marriage, it is safe to say that Lucy is as normal as any other girl who gets unwanted pregnancy, but that she is brave and rebellious becau of the family reasons.
Indeed, when confronted with problems, people ek ways out of them. Or to put it simply, people act and act in panic. For a college girl in the 1940s or the 1950s, an unwanted pregnancy is a great blow as it is prejudicially acknowledged that a pregnancy in undue time without marriage is shame. That is the reason why Lucy tries hard to hide the symptoms of pregnancy at college from other girls, then escapes from school to go back home and even conceals her being pregnant from her father and grandma by staying in bed and pretending to get the grippe.
