In the past, if a student in China wanted to study at a university in the UK, he or she had to pass UK college tests like the ALevel or IB. But the University of Birmingham has broken this tradition.
In October, 2018, the university said that it would accept gaokao当红明星 scores for Chine stud
ents who wished to study in the university. The gaokao is also known as China's national college entrance exam.
This means that for the first time, high school students who get high gaokao scores will be able to go straight to the University of Birmingham. They don't need to study here a year in advance like they ud to do.
But the university will only consider students who get at least 80 percent of the full scores in gaokao.
In recent years, more Western universities have started to accept gaokao scores. In June, the University of New Hampshire became the first top university in the US to accept them, along with the University of San Francisco. Colgate University will be the third one next summer. The scores are also accepted by 30 universities in Australia and 40 in Canada, as well as colleges in Italy, France and Spain.
