Introduction
When using Cisco Aironet Wireless LAN (WLAN) equipment, it may become necessary to perform a password recovery or to restore the default ttings on the equipment.
Note: Unlike other Cisco platforms, the Cisco Aironet hardware and software do not allow password recovery. You must instead return the equipment to its default state, from which it can be reconfigured.
This document prents the proper methods for performing the procedures as appropriate for various WLAN components.

Prerequisites
There are no specific prerequisites for this document.
Access Point
There are two operating systems currently in u on Cisco Aironet access points (APs). The operating system a unit is running determines which procedure to u for password recovery.
Determine Which Operating System
VxWorks operating system runs on:
340 Series Access Points
•
•
some 350 Series Access Points
•
some 1200 Series Access Points, also known as AP1220
Note: The graphical ur interface (GUI) for VxWorks has yellow bands with black and red text, and the Cisco logo in the upper right corner of the page.
Cisco IOS operating system runs on:
•
1100 Series Access Points
•
some 1200 Series Access Points, also known as AP1230
•
some 350 Series Access Points
Note: The GUI for IOS is predominantly green and gray with black and blue text, and the Cisco logo in the upper left corner of the page.
The procedure to ret the AP configuration under VxWorks changed beginning in version 11.07.
In all versions of the AP software, you must first connect to the AP to perform the recovery and then perform the steps to ret the unit.
Connecting to the AP
To connect to the AP, follow the steps below:
Note: The AP1100 does not have a console port, so the instructions do not apply. If you cannot obtain telnet or browr access, you must ret the unit to factory defaults and completely reconfigure it again.
1.
U a straight−through cable with 9−pin−male to 9−pin−female connectors to connect the COM 1 or COM 2 port on your computer to the RS−232 port on the AP.
五一旅游最佳去处On AP1200 ries models, the console port is an RJ45 connector, and the same console cabling ud for Cisco routers and switches can be ud. For more information, e the Cabling Guide for Console and AUX Ports.
Open a terminal−emulation program on your computer.
2.
Note: The instructions describe Microsoft HyperTeminal; other programs are similar.
3.
In the Connection Description window, enter a name, lect an icon for the connection, and click
OK.
4.
In the Connect To window, u the Connect using pull−down menu to lect the port to which the cable is connected, then click OK.
In the Port Settings window, make the following ttings:

Click OK.
7.
Press Enter.
Retting the Access Point − VxWorks Versions before 11.07
If you forget the password that allows you to configure the AP, you must ret the entire configuration to the factory default ttings. Follow the steps below to ret the AP configuration and assign a new password.
Note: The following steps do not recover an existing password; they delete the entire current configu
ration and return AP ttings to the factory defaults while prerving the Installation Key, without which the AP will not function.
Determining the Boot−Block Version
The steps you follow to ret the AP depend on the version of the boot blockof the AP . Follow the steps below to find out which boot−block version is on your AP, then u the corresponding instructions for versions 1.01 and earlier or versions 1.02 or later.
When you connect to the AP and the Summary Status screen appears, reboot the AP by pressing CTRL−X or by unplugging and then replugging the power connector.
As the AP reboots, introductory system information appears. The boot−block version appears in the third line of this text and is labeled Bootstrap Ver. If your boot−block version is 1.01, your introductory text might look like the following:
System ID: 00409625854D
Motherboard: MPC860 50MHz, 2048KB FLASH, 16384KB DRAM, Revision 20
Bootstrap Ver. 1.01: FLASH, CRC 4143E410 (OK)
