Today, we have the motion that “the foolish man should move the mountains away or move his hou away.” As you know, “The Foolish Old Man Who Removed the Mountains" is well-known Chine ancient fable story. It shows us that many difficulties appear unachievable, but by determination, perverance and the unremitting efforts, anything can be achieved. Yugong’s spirit has a great influence on our Chine people for generation to generation. Nowadays, young people think that the foolish man can move his hou. That is totally wrong. As Nehru said,” Strength does not come from physical capacity, it comes from indomitable will.” Don’t you think the development of human civilization is the same as the foolish old man’s work? Therefore, my proposal is that the foolish old man should move the mountains. Well, let me explain my proposal. Firstly, I’d like to point out that this is a fable which is not real. Yugong is only an imaginary character in this fairy tale. It just gives us ins
piration. That is, we should take the bull by the horns when we meet the difficulties. Secondly, we must believe that man can conquer nature. As Ernest Hemingway said, “Man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed, but not defeated. “Yugong’s spirit is just as a good example for us. The way to face the difficulties is that we should face it, challenge it, and solve it! We never give up although there are many problems need to be solved, such as AIDS. Thirdly, we really need this spirit. If there can’t be a spirit called “perverance”, how can The Old Man and the Sea won the 54th Nobel Prize in Literature; how can we drive the Japane invaders out of our country; how can George Walker Bush became the president of America; how can Forrest Gump won the Academy Award for Best Picture Of The Oscar? So my opinion is that the foolish old man should move the mountains. That’s all, thank you!

Finally, there is a n of ownership in Yugong’s spirit. As is known to everybody, we can meet any kinds of difficulties in our real life, what should we do? Escape? Suicide? That only proves that you are not your own master. If every time we encounter the difficulty and then move away, we will be guest forever. If so, how can we survive? How can our country be exist? Don’t you think that the n of ownership is the reason we should have? As the proverb goes, God helps tho who help themlves.
