[ 写作点评 ] Should Smoking Be Banned in Public Restaurants?
In the perfect situation, smoking policy would be t by bar or restaurant owners. Customers would decide if they want to avoid smoke-filled rooms or enter them. They mi
ght even choo to sit in an area that is parated for smokers or non-smokers. When the government starts telling restaurant owners what their customers can and cannot do, it is unpleasant.
Our government aims to protect us —to save us from society’s evils. However, in an attempt to protect the public from the ef-fects of passive smoking, banning customers from smoking has hurt the business in some bars and restaurants. The interests of restaurant and bar owners are often ignored. This is a rious problem for the owners and their employees.
Personal choice is a simple principle that is highly valued in American society. Ban-ning smoking in all public restaurants is against this principle and limits our freedom. So I think smoking should not be banned in all restaurants.
Notes:
1. evil n.弊端
夸人文采好的成语
2. passive smoking 被动吸烟
3. ban v.禁止
4. ignore v.忽略
