摘要
以莫奈、雷诺阿、毕沙罗、西斯莱等画家为代表的早期印象派之所以被视作现代艺术出场的重要标记之一,首先在于他们引发了一场关于“平面性”的视觉革命。通过叛离文艺复兴时期以来不断完善的透
视法则,早期印象派画家重新回到了绘画自身的物质性基础及其二维平面性特征。与此同时,早期印象派画家在新的视觉语言的探索中,不仅注重光、色等绘画要素的创造性表达,实现了从利用人造光到自然光、利用环境色到固有色的视觉革命;也在捕捉真实印象的表征诉求中,形成了具有表现性和个性化的笔触,并以此来回应他们眼中所见的世界。
然而,早期印象派在艺术史和美学研究中的重要性,不只是技法层面的革命,更为重要的是,该画派在一定程度上为现代性的发生提供了视觉“证据”——印证着视觉现代性的特质,并标记了观看关系的转型。这尤为集中的体现在莫奈等多位画家对传统绘画所建构的全知全能型视觉模式的挑战上。通过空间深度的压缩和二维平面的强化,艺术家们引导观者意识到绘画的实物性以及视觉的有限性,从而诱发观者进行移动观看的欲望,以颠覆从固定的、理想的、唯一的视角观看画作的传统。随之,由早期印象派画家在绘画实践中逐步确立起来的观看方式,在看与被看的视线交错中,实则构成了某种权力关系的视觉性表达。它嵌合于西方社会19世纪以来的现代化进程,也呈现了置身于其中的现代主体的存在危机:主体作为观看者的自明自足的权威性被削弱。在回应这一危机的过程中,早期印象派画家通过
