Over the years, I’ve been guilty ofhastily shutting the front door to many strangers when they came knocking withthe intention of lling things. But earlier this year, around Easter time, adear friend of mine had an experience that changed my mind and perceptiontowards the “intruders” .
Linda, who recently moved to a newneighbourhood, had been houbound all week suffering from a vere ca of fluwhen, early one morning, there was the terrible knock on her front door.Peering out the window, she saw two young ladies demurely( 端庄地) holdingleaflets and a TV t model. She knew of a large TV t establishment nearbyand assumed a message was about to be gently delivered. “This is the last thingI need today,
” she muttered to herlf and hesitantly opened the door.
沉默是今晚的康桥Coughing, she poked her head out andimpatiently informed them she wasn’t the slightest bit interested in any TVwhatsoever. Furthermore, she added, she was feeling quite unwelll and abruptlyshut the door. The ladies politely turned and left in silence.
A few hours later, another knock. Linda glanced outthe window and to her surpri, there were the same two ladies, back again.Really annoyed this time, she opened the door ready togive them a piece of her mind. Before she could speak, withconcerned looks on their faces, the women handed Linda what looked to be adish, saying, “We’re so sorry we disturbed you earlier. We thought you may likethis homemade chicken soup. Hopefully it might make you feel a little better.”
Linda was taken aback by this lovelygesture. Being new to the area, she didn’t know many neighboursorpeoplewhocouldassisther withshopping or errands(枣的英语中国新歌声第二季跑腿父爱如山母爱如水) sothegesturewasall the more appreciated. She could onlysmile sheepishly and sincerely thanked them. With that, the ladies left.
After she related this story to me,I thought about how touching this deed really was. Especially in today’s worldwhere sadly, kindness and thoughtfulness em so rare. I also realized thatthinking about others and showing kindness is the real esnce of love.
