study and gain knowledge day by day.However, I must admit that I spared less time for English learning.It’s an instructor-centered process.My English teacher led it and taught us many uful approaches to learning the language.Different from high school teachers, he spent plenty of time analyzing the
topic and referred to a lot related knowledge.He did so becau words expressions and grammars can always be learned by our own, while what he taught helped a lot to understand the topic and can never be taught again.Instead of explaining grammars, he taught us many principles.The principles were very practical and easy to be neglected.He always accents the nature of learning English, and I believe everyone in my class can repeat it easily: to get information and to express ideas.Under this principle, he made his class creative and lively.There are 10 units in our text book and each unit is concerned on one topic.Of the 3 passages consisted in one unit, the first one is required in class.Before we started to learn the passage, he would leave us veral minutes to discuss the topic in small groups.Then, the delegate of tho groups would share their opinion with the rest students.After that, our teacher would summarize our opinions and give his own thoughts.committing
He would say some profound truths, which were very thought provoking.Most of the truths were bad on his own experiences and made a very deep impression me.Then, he gave us 7 minutes to read the passage, and we were required to write a summary.He asked us to apply new knowledge, namely, try to intimate the passage.After we had learned it, we were required to write another one, which is a summary of the learned passage.The two summaries puzzled me very much and caud a lot of troubles for me.At first, I was quite reject to it and rather nsitive to “summary”.I really did not like it.Especially when I was writing the first summary, I could not remember the expressions and couldn’t help mylf to sneak a peek at the textbook.I was afraid to make mistakes, while it’s impossible to avoid all mistakes on such writings.I didn’t understand our teacher when one day he told us the aim of such practice.The first summary was aimed at fostering our nsitivity to new knowledge and improving our ability to organize information.And he said it’s normal we could not apply new expressions correctly, but we must try to u them.There is a step between ‘zero’ and ‘a good command of English’.The practice aimed
to help us get more clo to the highest step from the lowest step.Writing summaries is the process of such improving, so we could find us to have a much better command of new expressions when we wrote the cond summary.Apart from tho mentioned, we have another kind of writing and it was bad on College English Fast Reading.After reading each unit, we were required to write a much long summary, which should be no less than 300 words.Different from the referred writing, it was completed after class, and that meant we had enough time to do it.Of cour, it was much more difficult as we had to organize the information from 4 passages into one and we should also create connections between them.To write a successful essay, we had to not only apply new knowledge in the summary but also generalize plenty information in a clear way.Moreover, we have main writings, consisting of two long writings.The first writing is about Yushu Earthquake, which should be no less than 500 words.I remember the class he let us gave a prentation of the earthquake.Many of us expresd their idea in a disordered way.He pointed out our mistakes and taught us to speak out in a clear way.I remembered it clearly becau I mylf answered the question poorly.Before the class, I
