Part Ⅰ:Summary of the story
土豆菜谱This is a story about therescue of a poor chimney sweep boy from his cruel master.
At 12 years old Tess began her working life as a houmaid in Dr. Gooch’s. On her first day, she met a boy named Will who was sold to Mr. Fry as his apprentice to sweep the chimney. On that day, Will got lost in the chimney and fell to the nurry where the daughter of the family, Harriet, was living. The scream from Miss Harriet attracted Mrs. Hutton and Tess, they prevented Miss Harriet from nding Will back to Mr. Fry to avoid being abud. However, Will’s cough made himlf discovered and taken away by Mr. Fry. So Mrs. Hutton, Harriet and Tess decided to do something to rescue Will.
Tess hid under Dr. Gooch’s carriage with the help of Miss Harriet and arrived at Mr. Fry’s. She stole the keys to the room in which Will was locked when Mr Fry was napping. Unfortu
nately, the nois woke Mr. Fry and he filled the doorway. But he blundered in anger and accidentally fell down, for which he was locked by Tess. Tess and Will were about to run away when they were found by Dr. Gooch who stopped them and decided to nd Will back to his owner. But when he saw the criss-crosdstripes on Will’s back, he changed his mind and made him a shoe shiner in his hou.
