Reprented survivors of domestic violence in protection order hearings, reprented parties in custody cas; rved as a volunteer mediator with Columbia Legal Services. My reprentation included client interviews, rearch, and court appearances, including trials. Being a sole practitioner I would reprent one pro bono client at a time until resolution of their matter.

What is your strongest area of legal experti?
For the past ten years I have rved as a full time Superior Court Commissioner and substitute judge presiding over 15 different calendars. Prior to that, for six years I rved as a substitute court commissioner and judge at the request of the court or attorneys. In the 1999 and 2003 surveys of King County Attorneys (results were not published for commissioners in 2007), I received the highest ratings among family court commissioners in the areas of knowledge of the law, courtroom efficiency, impartiality and demeanor.
I am considered expert in the domestic violence community and by my peers and superiors when dealing with domestic violence protection order cas and I currently preside over the King County Superior Court Civil Protection Order Review Calendar. I have had three very successful tours of duty in Juvenile Court.
My ability to get to the root of the legal issue prented in an efficient, but fair manner has been my hallmark.
What recommendations do you have for improving court system funding and administration?
Given the far reaching impact that the court system has in many people’s lives, centralizing the Family and Juvenile Courts should increa efficiency, cut costs of operation while maximizing resources resulting in an expedited resolution of cas.
What actions have you taken in the last five years on issues regarding access to the judicial system?
I have rved as a member of the Judge’s Interpreter Committee that overes interpretation rvices for the King County Superior Court system. Improving access to justice requires that indigent ethnic minorities understand the legal proceedings of which they are a participant. As part of this committee, I strive to streamline the process of hiring interpreters and developing procedures for pro litigants to access interpreter rvices. In addition, I advi fellow commissioners as to the protocols and procedures to ensure that a litigant’s needs are being met.
To increa access to justice in the dependency area I participated in the filming of the tutorial DVD titled Keep Your Eyes on the Prize that explains the court process in dependency cas. The goal of the DVD is to have parties understand the process and system thereby increasing their participation in the process.
I rve on the Language Forms Committee that develops a bank of legal forms and orders that are p
rinted in both a target language and English in order to allow litigants to understand the legal forms and pleadings they are using. The committee focud on tting priorities as to specific orders and pleadings recognizing tho situations most likely to be ud by pro litigants and the needs they have. The first target language was Spanish. The goal of the committee is to further expand the specific languages ud thereby improving access to the judicial system.
What recommendations do you have for increasing access to the judicial system
(Civil and Criminal)?
Civil – creating a system (staffed by trained legal professionals) where pro litigants are interviewed immediately upon coming to court to determine the true nature of their legal issues and establish them in an appropriate legal mode; this would reduce the number of cas that are not actually contested, but where people frequently do not know how to properly proceed. For tho with true litigation needs, the process can t them on the proper cour of evidence gathering and trial preparation. Cas coming to trial will be prepared reducing the actual time for trial which currently is bogged down with administrative and procedural complications thereby allowing more cas to be procesd.肉馅怎么调
