It was 7:30 on Monday morning ——time to get ready for school. Jay

“Not bad, Stone," he said to himlf and smiled. He was a handsome boy ■

smiled, checking his teeth. "Perfect/ he thought. As his eyes moved down to his strong

were short. Not just short, but far too short for his body. Sitting, he was as tall as almost

Stubs Stone. Jay didn't like it, but he had to accept. He had no choice.
But Jay couldn*t e in the mirror what his legs could do. They were quick and
strong. He was the youngest player on the Brewer High football team. He could run
faster than anyone el on the team. Even on the basketball court, where the other
players were much taller than him, they were still afraid of him becau of his speed.
Jay shook his head. "Stubs Stone, the kid with short legs. Yeah, that's me," he said
to himlf with a sad smile.
