The upper end of the borer has a aling lip which press against a retaining lip in the top end of the bore. The retaining lip has a profile which grips the borer lip and cures it axially when the borer is pulled against the lip. The retracted borer opens the flow from the pipe into the tapping pipe ction. The fitting is finally aled by a cap (6) fitted over the boring stub and cured by crimping over the bottom edge of the cap skirt.
