Emily Bronte and her Wuthering Heights
Emily Jane Bronte was a poet and novelist. She wrote under the pen name Ellis Bell.
Emily Brontë was born on 30 July 1818 in the village of Thornton, West Riding of Yorkshire, in Northern England, to Maria Branwell and an Irish father Patrick Brontë.[5] She was the younger sister of Charlotte Brontë and the fifth of six children, though the two oldest girls, Maria and Elizabeth, died in childhood.[6][7]In 1820, shortly after the birth of Emily's younger sister Anne, the family moved eight miles away to Haworth, where Patrick was employed as perpetual curate; here the children developed their literary talents.

Becau of the bad condition in the school, their father took them home. Their father, an Irish Anglican clergyman, was very strict and during the day he would work in his office while the children were to remain silent in a room together. The six little sisters played in a tiny room overlooking the graveyard. They were exceptionally quiet, but Emily had a quick temper like a boy. The most favorite thing for her is roaming around the moors. The children spent most of their time in reading and composition.
Despite the lack of formal education, Emily and her siblings had access to a wide range of published material. Reading greatly contributed to her writing. The greatest literary influence on Emily was that of the poet George Gordon Byron. The Byronic spirit, the notion of fatal, is much in evidence in Emily’s poetry and her novel.
When Emily was 13, she and Anne withdrew from participation in the Angria story and began a new one about Gondal, a fictional island who myths and legends were to preoccupy the two sisters throughout their lives.
