1. Analysis of the teaching materials
The literature we taught is an American novel The Great Gatsby which is written by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. The story primarily concerns the young and mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his quixotic passion and obssion for the beautiful former debutante Daisy Buchanan. Through the tragedy of Gatsby, the novel mainly explores themes of the disillusion of American Dream. From learning this novel, students will know about the background information of that time and be more interested in learning American literature.
2. Analysis of the students
浪漫英文Since the students are studying in college, they have read and learned some literary works, so they know how to study literature on their own. But their English levels are various from each other, thus, the teaching design should be stratified from easy points to difficult points to help students get knowled
ge. In order to arou students’interest, teachers should design different tasks for students to carry out.
3. Teaching aims:
(1). Knowledge aim
A. Lead students to learn the background knowledge such as the End of the First World War, the Jazz Age, Prohibition and the American Dream.
B. Lead students learn about the u of symbolism.
(2). Ability aim
A. Improve the students’ ability of analyzing and solving problems such as analyze the character.
B. Improve the students’ spoken English and reading skills such as summarizing.
(3). Emotion aim
A. Arou students’ great interest in American culture.
B. Lead students to build correct world outlook, the outlook on life and values.
4. Teaching method
(1).Task-bad language teaching.
Design different tasks for students to carry out. There will be group works and personal speaking, such as the discussion about why Gatsby is great.
(2). Audio-visual teaching methods

Analyze people’s relationship and their characters.

Understand three main symbols in the novel.
7. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead in
Show students a short video of the movie The Great Gatsby, and then ask them the following questions:
(1) Do you know which novel that the movie is adapted from?
(2) Have you ever read this novel?
(3) Do you know the author and background information of the novel? (Purpo: Lead in the lesson naturally and arou their interest in learning the novel.)
Step 2 Background introduction
Show students a short video also lected from the movie The Great Gatsby which mainly describes the society at that time, and then introduce some information about the end of the WWⅠ, the Jazz Age, the Prohibition and the American Dream.  (Purpo: Introduce some important background information for students to make sure that they can learn the novel better.)
Step3: Character introduction

(Purpo: through finding out facts, students can be more familiar with the novel and have a better understanding. And this is different from the previous one, so it can make the practice colorful.)
3. Nick’s character
Discuss with your partner about Nik e’s character and find out facts to support your idea.
