①范伟 We envision the internet troll, a person who posts inflammatory, antagonizing content online, as a monster hiding behind the safety of the online world. In reality, trolls can be friends, neighbors, parents — even ourlves.

④ Another rearch at Cornell found that empathy — trying to understand where the other person’s opinion comes from — was one of the most important tips for effectively arguing online. Also, the subtle ways in which language was ud had a big effect on the argument.
⑤ Of cour, sometimes it’s just not worth engaging in online debates. When someone is trolling — using hateful, offensive language to incite anger — it’s best to skip the conversation altogether.
