摘要：A recording and reproducing method is disclod. The method us a reproducing unit (120) for reproducing one of a plurality of first recording media, such as, so-called compact discs, which are houd in a first housing ction (124a) and in which information signals are recorded, and a recording unit (130) for recording the information signals reproduced by the reproducing unit (120) onto one of recordable cond recording media, such as, magneto-optical discs, which are houd in a cond housing ction (134a) and each of which has a recording area capable of recording information signals therein and a management information area having recorded therein management information including at least table of contents information of the information signals recorded in the recording area. The method includes the steps of: taking out one of the first recording media from the first housing ction (124a), loading the one first recording medium onto the reproducing unit (120), and tting the reproducing unit (120) to a reproduction standby state for the loaded first recording medium; and taking out one of the cond recording media from the cond housing ction (134a), loading the one cond recording medium onto the recording unit (130),
tting the recording unit (130) to a recording standby state for the loaded cond recording medium,
