instead一词在高考题中，特别是在七选五中，经常出现，且常为设题点。但不少考生却掌握不好，导致失分。本文就其用法作一个小结。
十二星座的性格
首先理解instead的意思“相反地，反而”，它一般用在前一句为肯定句，后一句为否定句，或者前一句为否定句，后一句为肯定句中。若前后不是句子，也依然往往是前面是否定的后面就是肯定的，其前面是肯定的后面就是否定的。即，前后肯否常相对。
一、在七选五中的考查
