Culture/Property
Both 'culture' and 'property' are contested terms. 'Culture' variously refers to the whole way of life of

individuals make n of the world (as in 'cultural studies'), and the arts (as in 'Liverpool,
European Capital of Culture 2008'). In Western culture (in the first n of that word) 'property' generally denotes a legal person's exclusive control over some thing, although that meaning is being
challenged by the increasing salience of the phenomenon of the 'commons', where no single person has exclusive control over the u or disposition of the common ast, but collective u is nonetheless
regulated by reciprocally recognid rules.
What then is the social, economic and political significance of subjecting culture in one n or
another to a regime of property of one kind or another? Is it the ca that property necessarily 'reifies' cultural process and impos an artificial logic of instrumentally-rational action on a realm丹参酮胶囊副作用
where it doesn't belong? Is property - even commons property - inherently linked with individualising modes of thought? How do property rights underpin cultural markets? Can culture (in any n) be marketid, and what conquences flow from this? Do propertisation process induce a focus on
exclusion which is unwarranted given the infinitely shareable nature of intangible cultural
resources? Are there particular practical difficulties involved with embedding and enforcing relations of inclusion and exclusion in respect of the resources? How, if at all, is propertisation linked with process of identity-formation?
