Abstract: Mental health is the foundation of cultivating high-quality new talents in colleges and universities. Carrying out multi-level and diversified sports teaching can not only help students better understand their sports ability and quality level, but also point out the direction for students’ sports training and physical ability improvement, and create enough space for students’ theoretical knowledge, psychological literacy, sports skills and innovative spirit, which is helpful to achieve the teaching objectives of basic sports teaching and the key teaching objectives of improving students’ psychological quality and overall literacy. K nowledge, quality and practical ability are the requirements of the current era for new talents, and also the needs of talent development. However, with the progress of society, the mental health of residents has gone from bad to wor, and quite a few people are in a sub-health state, which is not co
nducive to social stability and development. As the education department of talent rerve, colleges and universities are cloly related to the mental health of college students. Many rearch events show that sports can positively affect students’ psychological state, and improve their psychological sub-health status, thus promoting the healthy development of college students’ body and mind. This paper mainly studies the influence of college physical education on college students’ mental health, and puts forward relevant opinions, with a view to promoting the smooth development and progress of college physical education and contributing to the cultivation of talents in the new era.

1. The Meaning of Mental Health
Mental health is a complicated concept, and different countries and regions have different understandings of mental health. But on the whole, it is the highest pursuit standard of human body and mind system, which reflects the normal state of human psychology and the ability to keep good adaptability to the environment. Considering China’s national conditions, mental health mainly includes sound personality, correct outlook on life, normal cognitive ability, reasonable behavior, good interpersonal relationship, good will, stable mood and adaptive respon ability [1].

Youth is prosperous, while youth is strong, the country is strong. The university stage is not only the golden time to cultivate professional skills, but also the most important stage to shape the youth’s spiritual temperament. College students’ sports and practice are the key links to implement the healthy China strategy. However, at prent, universities are not only facing some practical difficulties in improving their physique, but also as far as the current situation of college students’ mental health is concerned, due to the influence of social atmosphere, family factors, school environment, study pressure and employment pressure, the mental pressure of college students is gradually increasing, and some students’ psychology is in a sub-health state, and this phenomenon is becoming more and more rious. According to relevant statistical data, in recent years, the proportion of college students who have dropped out of school due to mental illness in China is as high as 37%. Moreover, the past incidents of Ma Jiajue, 44 cas, patricide of international students studying in Japan, Yao Jiaxin’s murder, poisoning of drinking fountains and so on are all related to th
e mental health of college students, which once again confirms that the mental health of college students in China is worrying at prent.
3. The Influence of College Sports on College Students’ Mental Health
With the continuous development of the concept of national health and the further deepening of the education system reform, the Ministry of Education points out that physical education in colleges and universities should strive to make students strengthen their physique, improve their personality, temper their will and gain fun through physical exerci, so as to promote the all-round development of their personality. Therefore, on the one hand, college physical education undertakes the urgent mission of improving college students’ physique and health, on the other hand, it also has the long-term goal of educating people and revitalizing the national spirit. The influence of college sports on college students’ mental health is mainly reflected in the following aspects:
(1) Improve the emotional state

Under the background of the Internet age, residents rely heavily on mobile phones and the Internet for their work, life, entertainment and leisure. Past experience shows that the traditional education mode with the main purpo of passing exams and obtaining credits is not conducive to forming a correct outlook on sports and health. Teachers can only concentrate on imparting theoretical knowledge and demonstration in a limited period of time in class, and only a large number of independent exercis after class can really play the role of sports. Especially for college students, it is more important to cultivate their autonomy and lifelong sustainability of exerci. Therefore, generally speaking, schools should correctly evaluate students’ sports skills and physical quality level, reasonably arrange appropriate expansion links, and give full play to each student’s maximum sports ability in the team, so as to obtain the best sports effect. This can not only exerci students’ overall coordination ability, but also give full play to students’ sports experti, and promote the improvement of students’ sports ability and comprehensive quality. 5. Conclusion
To sum up, insisting on physical exerci can not only make up for the physical weakness caud by the general reduction of physical activity in social life, but also exerci the will, enhance social interaction and friendship, and improve life happiness through sports practice. At the same time, college physical education is not only related to the healthy growth of college students’ body and mind, but also an indispensable part of the discipline system, curriculum system, practice system and education system of colleges and universities. Therefore, actively developing college sports not only positively affects their psychological state, but also contributes to the formation of their comprehensive sports literacy, so that they can become high-quality talents needed by the times.
